The new government of Puerto Rico wasted no time in confusing itself, and the entire world, in regard to what it wants.

Newly elected Gov. Ricky Roselló is demanding statehood immediately while his PNP counterpart in Washington – Resident Commissioner Jenniffer Gonzalez – filed a bill to make Puerto Rico the 51^st state eight years from now, in 2025.

IT’S ALL SHOW BUSINESS

Pedro Pierluisi submitted a nearly identical bill in 2015, with 100 Congressional co-sponsors attached to it…and the bill went nowhere. It didn’t even get out of committee.

But just 22 hours after getting sworn in, Gonzalez submitted her bill without even one co-sponsor attached.

The bill doesn’t even have any language in it…it’s just an empty page with a number – HR 260 – to “Enable the admission of the territory of Puerto Rico into the Union as a State.”

By her own admission, Gonzalez stated that she would be “filing a series of additional measures…some of them one or two years later, to obtain sponsors.”

My bill is ridiculous…but check out my cabbage patch!

In other words, Gonzalez already knows her “bill” is a blank piece of paper…as useless as a fortune cookie…but hey, let’s throw it out there anyway!

The Puerto Rican press will eat the cookie!

What the hell…Donald Trump is President.

The ex-governor of California is hosting The Apprentice, and Trump is still the show’s Executive Producer.

It’s all show business!

BRING IN THE CLOWNS

Unfortunately, to the outside world, it’s also a clown show.

The idea of submitting a useless bill with no statutory language and no sponsors, by a “Resident Commissioner” with no congressional vote, just 22 hours after being sworn in, turns that “Resident Commissioner” into a clown.

In less than one day Jenniffer Gonzalez, the “face” of Puerto Rico in the US Congress, has converted her office into a circus act.

She is posing and posturing for the people of Puerto Rico…whom she believes, are stupid enough to fall for this act.

RICKY THE HYPOCRITE

Gov. Ricky Roselló also believes in the stupidity of Puerto Ricans.

On the island, he tells them that “we demand statehood immediately!”

During his inauguration, in his very first speech as governor, he brought the crowd to their feet by shouting “I am flying to Washington on Monday, to back a bill to admit Puerto Rico as the 51^st state!”

What he didn’t tell them is that Puerto Rico will not become a state on Monday, or Tuesday, or next month, or next year. In fact, the “bill” he is backing doesn’t really exist, doesn’t have a single sponsor, will never get out of committee, and might call for statehood…maybe…in 2025!

In other words, within minutes of becoming governor, Ricky Roselló began lying to Puerto Rico.

Apparently Ricky and Jenniffer – and other island politicians – believe that Puerto Ricans do not read the news from Washington, D.C.

Ricky and Jenniffer think that Puerto Ricans know nothing of US congressional procedure.

They think we can’t track a bill – such as HR 727, Pedro Pierluisi’s “Puerto Rico Statehood Admission Process Act” – which was introduced in February 2015, referred to the House Committee on Natural Resources (the same committee that gave us the PROMESA bill) and then died in that committee, despite acquiring 100 co-sponsors.

They think we don’t know that Jenniffer’s phony “Statehood” bill, with no language in it, was immediately referred to the same committee – Natural Resources – that killed the Pierluisi bill in 2015, and gave us PROMESA in 2016.

Ricky and Jenniffer think they can say one thing in Puerto Rico, and do another in the US…act like lions in San Juan, and lambeojos in Washington.

It worked for Muñoz Marín, it worked for Luis Fortuño…so why not for Ricky and Jenniffer?

THESE ARE DIFFERENT TIMES

Unfortunately, these are different times.

Puerto Rico is in a deep crisis, Wall Street is taking advantage of it, people are losing their pensions, their homes, and their homeland.

In 2017, when politicians behave like clowns to make themselves rich…

At the expense of their own people in Puerto Rico…

They are being watched.

Very carefully.
