Jennifer Lopez…speak out on the Jones Act!
Last week, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony gave a free concert for Hillary Clinton in Miami, Florida
Lin-Manuel Miranda has held “Hamilton” themed events in support of Hillary.
But J-Lo and Lin-Manuel need to put their star power behind something that really matters in Puerto Rico…getting rid of the Jones Act.
THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING
The Jones Act forces Puerto Ricans to pay 15-20% more for everything they consume: food, clothing, cars, gasoline and electricity. A car costs $6,000 more in Puerto Rico than it does in Miami. Without the Jones Act, the “public debt” of Puerto Rico would not even exist.
But the US public doesn’t pay much attention to the crisis in Puerto Rico. They follow the movement of J-Lo’s body, and the soap opera of her love life. Accordingly, J-Lo is in a position to stand up for Puerto Rico…not just stump for a political candidate.
Hillary Clinton has not helped the island. She supported the PROMESA bill, did nothing about Chapter IX bankruptcy reform, and accepted over one million dollars from hedge funds that are holding the island’s debt.
If Hillary wins the presidency tomorrow, then Jennifer Lopez – who helped Hillary to win the vital Florida vote – could urge Hillary to end the Jones Act in Puerto Rico.
FOLLOW THE “SIX TRAILBLAZERS”
The civil rights movement of the 1950s and 60s had “Six Leading Trailblazers” who had an enormous impact on the entire movement.
The six trailblazers were Harry Belafonte, Ruby Dee, Ossie Davis, Dick Gregory, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Sidney Poitier.
They marched with Martin Luther King, Jr., the ministers of the SCLC, and the Pullman Porters.
They leveraged their media access into a worldwide awareness of segregation and the Jim Crow laws.
They focused immediate and urgent attention on the deep South – before more lives were lost, and more tragedies occurred.
And none of their careers suffered for it. In fact, quite the opposite.
Today, our Puerto Rican celebrities must step up…and show the same leadership as the “Six Trailblazers” during the civil rights movement.
MARCH ON JACKSONVILLE
Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Rosario Dawson, Benicio Del Toro, Ricky Martin, Rosie Perez, Bruno Mars, Jimmy Smitts, Luís Guzmán, Esai Morales, Lin-Manuel Miranda…
The list is long and impressive.
All of them can pressure Pres. Hillary Clinton to end the Jones Act in Puerto Rico.
All of them could call for a March on Jacksonville, Fla. to end the Jones Act, and a March on Washington to end the financial abuse of Puerto Rico.
They can keep selling records, movies and hair products.
They can keep being celebrities, with no reduction in status or marketability.
In fact, their status will rise…when the whole world sees their integrity, and their character, while defending their native land.
There is no shame in defending your homeland.
It is time for Jennifer Lopez, and all our Puerto Rican “celebrities,” to do something for Puerto Rico.

Puerto Ricans all together need to wake up and realize what’s really going on here. Stop standing on middle ground and make a choice. Our Black family is being killed, Our Native family is being killed and you who do not know or choose to disregard your history are siding with Satan. Because you don’t look too black or too Native. That does not change your DNA. Neutral is not an option.
Neutral is why PR is a Common wealth today.
Before they came to the island we were there. Before they came to “America” we were there. Stand up and be yourself.

All those named celebrities have a large Puerto Rican fan base, so lets make them more aware of thier obligation with the island nation

I agree 1000% but with that said the two candidates that we have don’t leave us much options on November 8th Thant to support the lesser of two evils. The struggle continues after the elections.

Oh my goodness! I have been thinking about the same thing lately! Yes, yes, yes! During the repulsive segregation of the sixties the African-Americans let their voices be heard. Just like we let our voices be heard for Vieques, let our voices be heard again for our beloved dying island. My people, for the love of our beautiful island, LET OUR VOICES BE HEARD!
