Puerto Rico has beaches, caves, underground rivers, El Yunque rain forest, and 19^th through 21st century architecture. It has an enormous talent pool of actors, writers, cinematographers and musicians.

In short, Puerto Rico should have a world-class film industry.
 

 
Johnny Depp filmed The Rum Diary and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in Puerto Rico. Contact, Che, Bad Boys II, GoldenEye, Runner Runner, and A Show of Force were all shot – partially or entirely – in Puerto Rico.

With a 40% production tax credit program, the island offers a great financial package to big-budget film producers from all over the world.

These production tax credits should also be offered to lower-budget productions, not just the Hollywood studio films…particularly those which originate in Puerto Rico with Puerto Rican actors, writers, directors and musicians.

And then there’s the stories: the pirate Cofresí; El Grito de Lares; the lives of Pedro Albizu Campos, Blanca Canales, El Aguila Blanca, and Filiberto Ojeda Ríos; the Nationalist Revolt of 1950; the baseball greats and boxing champions…in a world hungry for original and authentic stories, Puerto Rico has hundreds of them.

In addition to raising the price of water and electricity, lowering the minimum wage, firing workers, and cutting pensions, the U.S. Financial Control Board should support the film industry of Puerto Rico.
