16 year-old Puerto Rican gymnast wins an Olympic gold medal
Laurie Hernandez is the youngest member of the US women’s gymnastic team. Just 16 years old, she has already starred in the US National Championships, won the 2015 U.S. Classic…and now, in Rio de Janeiro, she won a gold medal in the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Laurie is a member of the “Final Five,” an extremely gifted team that includes Simone Biles and Aly Raisman. Some of her tumbling runs are absolutely death-defying, such as this one:
Her balance beam work is equally spectacular:
Calm yet confident, Laurie’s success is firmly rooted in her work ethic. For several years, she has trained five to six hours a day, six days a week. Along the way she has overcome a dislocated knee, a torn patella ligament, a bruised MCL, and surgery on her right knee.
At 16 years of age, Laurie has paid her dues.

At the 2016 Olympics, she made an immediate impression on the audience, the judges, and the press.
One sports analyst wrote that Laurie is “a power gymnast with the greatest degree of artistry” in the entire gymnastic field.
Laurie Hernandez has one other advantage.
Something that is deeply rooted in her character, her upbringing, and her personal faith.
In a recent interview, Laurie said the following:

I love this girl Is Beautiful always happy a star at his 16 years old with the aura of all Caribbean woman that make her special also is humble I have no world to describe my admiration for her. I been so surprise that several Puertoriquenos acuse her of a traitor because she represent USA in the Olympics, first, any Boricua can proudly represen USA becouse have both nacionality But in this particular case she was Born in OLD BRIDGE NJ second generation of Puertoriquenos her grand parents are Boricuas. ” Chupate esa” Me pregunto otro de mis favoritos nacidos en Puerto Rico, Posada Sera Cubano? (Padre Cubano) sera Dominicano (Madre Dominicana) Americano Tiene esa nacionalidad Tambien ,o Puertoriqueno donde nacio.

We are all Puerto Ricans, no matter where we live or where we were born. If you have Puerto Rican blood you are Puerto Rican and should be proud of it. That island 100X35 miles, has produced Oscar winners, great scientists, scholars, poets, musicians, singers, baseball Hall Of Famers, and athletes, besides American War Heroes.
The best thing about the Puerto Rican people is their humbleness. That’s the true Puerto Rican. Of course, like any other ethnic group, we have undesirables too, but they are the extreme minority.
God bless our island and may it solve it’s political status soon, no matter what they choose, whether statehood or independence, we are pro American.
At the moment we are natural born American citizens and proud of it.

first of all congrats to her and her family great job keep pushing for more dont let no one step on your toes. God first stay humble treat people with respect but at the same time make sure your respected with the up most of respect and let people know yes i am human and a beutiful puerto rican girl that wont be denied. i will pray for you follow your career and wear my puerto rican flag with tears and pride!! oh by the way i do want an autograph.Que Dios me la queide y la bendiga. good luck with your dreams but most of all your life.
