Puerto Ricans are being “encouraged” to leave their island

Book - 12-10

Within a few months, thanks to our congressional PROMESA, the youth of Puerto Rico may receive a minimum wage of $4.25 an hour. Older workers would then be fired, and replaced by the new “$4.25 workers.”

But something even stranger is happening. From all over the US, “recruiters” are pouring into Puerto Rico and encouraging people to leave the island. Here’s how it’s done…

Over the past year, more than half a dozen southern states have recruited Puerto Ricans as “bilingual teachers” for their public schools.

http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2012-03-11/puerto-rico-economy-brain-drain-exodus/53490820/1

Less than two months ago, the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) spent $20,000 on a two-week recruitment trip, to convince Puerto Ricans to join the BPD.

Companies such as Boeing and Disney; NASA; and other government agencies, school districts and hospitals are flocking into UPR Mayaguez, to hire students as soon as they graduate.

http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2012-03-11/puerto-rico-economy-brain-drain-exodus/53490820/1

Pharmaceutical companies are making repeated trips to every major city on the island.

One doctor per day leaves Borinquen. They’re constantly pursued by medical headhunters, who specialize in “making an offer they can’t refuse.”

“The medical recruitment from the US has cost us a lot,” said Dr. Fernando Luis Joglar. “We can’t pay what the US companies are offering to our doctors.”

Dr. Joglar knows what he is talking about, because he is the President of the Puerto Rico Division of the American College of Surgeons.

If you don’t have a medical degree or a teaching license, and if you’re too old to be a Baltimore cop, there’s still more options.

PUERTO RICANS CAN PEEL FISH IN ALASKA

A large number of hotels – mostly from southern states and Las Vegas, NV – want to hire Puerto Rican women as maids, for $10 an hour.

http://www.metro.pr/economia/buscan-boricuas-para-trabajar-en-hoteles-de-ee-uu/pGXpha!78kKAznS5Djk/

Alaska is currently seeking Puerto Rican workers – both men and women – who will gut, peel and pack fish for $9.75 an hour.

Overtime is paid at $14.63 an hour.

To some this may feel like opportunity…but the minimum wage in Alaska is $9.75 an hour, and the minimum overtime wage is $14.63 an hour.

http://www.metro.pr/economia/buscan-boricuas-para-trabajar-en-alaska/pGXphd!9d1FBNUNbXa2/

So Puerto Ricans are being offered jobs 5,600 miles away, at complete minimum wage, in one of the most expensive states in the country

DON’T GO AWAY MAD…JUST GO

It is thus becoming difficult, to ignore an unfolding pattern In Puerto Rico.

Her own children – the indigenous population – are being forced off the land, sea and air that is rightfully theirs. Over one million Puerto Ricans have fled the island over the past twelve years, and the mass migration is growing.

While US billionaires receive 20-year tax abatements and 30-year P3s, working class Puerto Ricans are slowly bled to death…and told that $4.25 an hour will develop their economy, and strengthen their character.

The rest of the world is told that this is our character…so no wonder the island went broke!

Of course they deserve to lose it!

There is a powerful subtext in all of this.

The US won’t come out and say it…presidents will no longer “invade” the island, and police chiefs will not declare a “War against all Puerto Ricans.”

No…they don’t have to.

Today the aggression is less obvious, and more lethal.

Through corporate and government fraud, media complicity and unearned entitlement, Puerto Rico is being strangled in slow motion.

They hijacked our currency, stole our land, jailed our leaders, and now they lay siege to our spirit.

They smile and patronize us. They hold hearings and send PROMESAS.

They don’t give a damn about us…hell, they barely give a damn about their next-door neighbor. How could we expect them to lift a finger or shed a tear for us, 1,500 miles away?

No…they’ll send us a $4.25 minimum wage, a Financial Control Board, a boatful of NALED, and expect us to be thankful for it.

The fact is, they think they’re superior to us…

The truth is, they just want us to leave…

Except for a few lucky natives who will serve their drinks, and smile on cue, and fulfill a few fantasies, for $4.25 an hour.

Everyone ready and thrilled, to work for $4.25 an hour

But some of us say “no.”

Some of us see another geography.

There’s another island these vultures can go to. An island they have earned. No one will question their right to own and exploit it.

Its name starts with “C” and ends with an “o.”

They’re welcome to go there.

  1. We can’t sit idly by and do nothing as we see Puerto Rico being strangled to death by the American disease of corporatism.

1.) If you have any warrior blood that’s crying out for justice?
2.) If you’re tired of feeling helpless as you see the life of our peoples land being robbed and pillaged through beurocratic measures?
3.) If you call yourself Boricua with the passion that makes us who we FUCKING ARE?

Then it’s time to impact here in America in the same fashion that they are impeding on our rights of humanity.

FUEGO MI GENTE. QUEMEN TODO LO QUE SE PUEDA EN LOS ESTADO UNIDOS.
You have the power to burn this filthy country down to the ground.
Here, there, everywhere……….we have to start now and force change through the ashes.
If you submit to this continued degradation of our Island, people, and culture then there will be nothing left except slavery through political mechanisms. It’s time to reclaim our savagery in order to demand respect, because these animals don’t understand anything else except force by any means necessary.

  4. It hurts to see my brothers and sisters in the Island been taken advantage of and use by the very people that represent them. The crooked politicians less than honorable men and women who are elected by you and have you as their slaves. You must keep those elected official (PIJOS) following the wishes of the people, and be accountable. I came to the States at the age of 10, fortunate that my parents choose Astoria Queens to live, by necessity I had to learn the language to survive. Went thru the school system and had to work.no options given. I am a blessed Puerto Rican, and my only wish. That Borinquen becomes a State of this great Country before my time is up. You can do it. Make the right choices, educated and politicized yourself. God Bless everyone of you.

  5. Oh, YES.
Go to Baltimore and be part of one of the most corrupt police forces imaginable. Where the police sit and discuss the beat-downs they give to anyone who they are attempting to arrest that runs to get away, and ‘makes them’ give chase, when they think no one listening cares. “If I gotta chase them. They gonna pay. When the DA asks what happened to him, I just smile and say, he fell” I’d go on but you get the point. Also one of the highest rates of violent crime in the nation. Higheat murder rates, and the police are probably one of the most hated police forces in the nation. Yes,
The city that gave us Freddie Gray.
What, do they need some disposable people or patsys?
    DONT DO IT!

  6. yes lets educated and politicized puertorricans so they can make a great and significant decision: “Yankees o puertorriquenos”,but also lets try to diagnose the effects of over 600 years of colonialism…we need to understand more and work around this medical and psychological issue. We need clear and understandable opinions and guides over this issues and how to manage it on the organizing of the colonized..

  7. This type of manipulation and corruption has been going for as long as I could remember. Our supposed constituents on the island both the PPD & PNP leading parties have joined the Americans in destroying our Island, our people, and our future.
Something that really amazes me is that the island people still are continuing the support of these same party Politicians that that have screwed them repeatedly.
They still believe in these two partiess that have consistently been stealing money to enrich themselves and their friends and family. Yet they never seek to rise and give the PIP ( Independence Party) it’s rightfull place. The independent party has had little to no support via island people. I ask you now isn’t it time to change the old corrupt system that has been screwing the Puerto Rican people since the days of Luis Munoz Marin.
Isn’t it time to boycott these same American companies from Walmart to Home Depot that use up the island people, destroy local businesses and take the cash out of the island.
Also, what part is a Governor going to play now with PROMESA in control of the island. It’s just remarkable that both of these political parties are still running around in car caravans drumming up support FOR WHAT!

  12. The reason we are in this mess right now is because we had (have) inept, corrupt politicians running this government for decades, appointing people in high places who have absolutely no knowledge of what they are/were doing (the AEE is a prime example of this), AND we have a mindset here that it is okay to cheat on your taxes, work off the books, collect IVU but don’t pay it, don’t bother with licensing….the list could go on and on. The reason this has been allowed to go for so long is that people get away with it because the government won’t/can’t do it’s job! Well, it’s time to pay the piper! This attitude has gone on for too long and no one on this island is capable of fixing this terribly corrupt and broken system. It is going to take someone from the outside who is not connected to the politicians to set things straight. I look forward to it as do many, many business people from here….this situation can’t continue. I see Puerto Rico’s future as bright! We are going to come out of this better than ever! We are going to go through a hurricane for a while, but as people who live on the beautiful island know, hurricanes take out all the old dead wood, uproots trees, and washes away a lot of dirt….and then there is a huge resurgence of growth! I say BRING IT! It can’t happen fast enough!

  13. That’s a good Idea, The whole Island should leave to the U.S.A. Let the United Have it or sale it so they can use all that Money to Take care of all 3 Million plus that leave. Won’t that be something since they are not willing to help or give the Island it’s FREEDOM since 1898. 118 years is ENOUGH. The U.S. Want it then KEEP IT.
