2. Pepito, lol, I have tried to hit the “like” button various times in these blogs and am redirected to wordpress.com and asked for a domain – ??? Thank you so much for your response. When I heard about the book “War Against All Puerto Ricans” I knew I had to read it. I always knew that my people had been oppressed but did not know to what extent. My father never spoke about the history of Puerto Rico, all I knew was that he was obsessed with his island, would spend the winters over there and one day his stay there became permanent. Reading the book made me emotionally sick but am so glad that Mr. Denis wrote it. I was appalled, disgusted, outraged, heartbroken; did not know how evil the United States of America had been towards my people. Growing up in New York I felt the racism towards my people – from being called a “spic” to a North American woman telling me to get out of a public sidewalk – just because I was Puerto Rican. This is something that stays with you forever.

   I was a teen the first time I went to my island and fell in love with its beauty and the warmth of my people. Some years ago I was ready to move back and my trip was interrupted by court order. So here I am, still in the states, freezing my booty every winter (oh those horrible winters!). Life takes some unexpected turns and many times you find yourself in some surprising predicaments and you have no other option but to stay still. I would love to live my last days in my island, walk the street in my San Juan where I lived as a little girl and get to know my island. Will that day ever come? I sure do hope so. In the meantime all I can do is hope.

   Pepito, you are so right. That’s why in another blog I asked the question “what is my people doing about all of this?” They probably don’t want to deal with it because of the horrific torture they were submitted to in the past when they did want to deal with it. It’s like their spirit has been crushed. I live in the states and it’s very frustrating and heartbreaking to read all of this. Mi gente, que vamos hacer? Nuestra isla se desvanece.

   WELL, YOU PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE “LIKED” ME ON THIS BLOG IF I WAS SO RIGHT… BUT, THERE WERE SOME RESERVATIONS. THAT’S OK.

   MAYBE YOU’RE NOT AWARE OF IT, BUT FREEDOM SOMETIMES HAS A VERY HIGH COST. ( WHAT AN OXYMORON TO BE SAYING THIS FROM U.S. SOIL… SO CALLED LEADER OF THE “FREE WORLD”.. ) THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE, THAT THE ISLANDERS DON’T WANT TO PAY THE PRICE. MAYBE THAT KIND OF FREEDOM WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN FOUGHT FOR IN A DIFFERENT ERA AND NOT IN TODAY’S WORLD. MAYBE, THE ISLANDERS JUST GOT COMFORTABLE WITH THEIR F****D UP SITUATION ( SO CALLED SENSE OF FREEDOM..) AND RESIGNED THEMSELVES TO IT. “HAVING YOUR CAKE AND EATING IT TOO” HAS BEEN THE MINDSET FOR MOST ISLANDERS. UNTIL THE CHICKEN’S COME HOME TO ROOST. MEANING, IF SOMETHINGS’ TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.. IT IS. WHY WOULD ANY SUPERPOWER SUBJECT ANYONE TO COLONIAL STATUS?? BECAUSE THEY WANT TO SEE HOW MUCH THEY CAN GET OUT OF IT. NO MATTER THE METHOD. HAD PR BECOME A STATE OR INDEPENDENT, PR’S VERY LIKELY WOULDN’T BE IN THIS PREDICAMENT. ALL PR HAS TO DO IS LOOK TO THE WEST AT THEIR NEIGHBOR, CUBA. MY GUESS IS THAT THE PR’S DON’T LIKE THE POVERTY THEY SEE IN CUBA, THE WAY THE POPULAR PRESS PORTRAYS IT. WHY HAVEN’T ALL THOSE 12 MILLION PEOPLE BEEN JUMPING THE ISLAND OF CUBA?? OVER THE PAST 56 YRS?? THEY COULD DO IT, YOU KNOW. MAYBE IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH SOMETHING CALLED…DIGNIDAD. AND, I THINK THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE PR ISLANDERS AND ELSEWHERE DON’T HAVE IT ( A SENSE OF DIGNITY ) LIKE THEY NEED TO. MEANING, MOST HAVE PLACED A “PRICE” ON THEIR SENSE OF DIGNITY. PERIOD. AND WITHOUT DIGNITY AS A STARTING POINT, YOU HAVE NOTHING. IF YOU TRY TO BUILD ON NOTHING, IT QUICKLY TURNS INTO A MESS. MUCH LIKE WHAT HAPPENS TO A BUILDING WHOSE FOUNDATION WAS BUILT ON SAND AFTER AN EARTHQUAKE.

   THE CUBAN’S STOOD BEHIND THEIR LEADER, BY AND LARGE. HE STOOD FOR DIGNITY AND THE RECLAMATION OF A NATIONS’ SOUL. ENOUGH OF THEM STOOD BEHIND HIM AND FOUGHT TO CAUSE THEMSELVES TO REGAIN THEIR SENSE OF DIGNITY. YES, THEY PAID A HUGE PRICE IN THE MANNER YOU DESCRIBED IT. BUT, IT WAS WORTH IT TO THEM THEN AND NATIONHOOD, AND STILL NOW. YOU’RE RIGHT, THE LONGER ONE WAITS, THE MORE DIFFICULT IT BECOMES TO REGAIN ONE’S SPIRIT/DIGNITY. THE CUBAN’S GOT THEIR SHIT TOGETHER 60 YRS AGO. THEY WENT THROUGH A VERY SIMILAR SITUATION AS PR ( ALTHOUGH THE U.S. APPROACH TO PR WAS MUCH MORE DIPLOMATIC AND SUAVE…TO AVOID A KNEE JERK REACTION BY TE ISLANDER’S ). THE DIFFERENCE LIES IN COURAGE. COURAGE THAT THE PR’S HAVE YET TO RE-DISCOVER IN THEMSELVES. ONLY A HANDFUL HAVE PICKED UP THE TORCH ONLY TO BE ABANDONED BY THE MASSES. THEREFORE LEAVING THEIR FEARLESS AND COURAGEOUS LEADERS HOLDING THEIR D***S IN THEIR HANDS. THE MASSES HAVE BEEN THE COWARDLY LION FOR A HUNDRED AND EIGHTEEN YEARS NOW. TO THE WORLD. SO, THEY HAVE IT COMING, RIGHT? OR NOT RIGHT? RIGHT. THEY’RE NOT RESPECTED BECAUSE OF IT. AND SO THE ABUSE CONTINUES.

   A TYRANT, SOCIOPATH, PSYCHOPATH OR OTHER SIMILARLY DISORDERED PERSON HAS NO FEELING FOR YOUR SADNESS AND GRIEF. NONE. AND, THEY DON’T GIVE A F**K ABOUT GOD; AND STANDING TALL BEFORE THE MAN WHEN THEY PASS. THERE IS NO ACCOUNTING. THEY JUST DON’T SEE THE WORLD THE WAY YOU AND ME DO. AND THOSE ARE THE ONE’S THAT HAVE BEEN LEADING THE CHARGE IN PR’S DISINTEGRATION. THEY’VE BEEN DOING IT HERE IN THE STATE’S TOO. AND, NOT MANY ARE DOING ENOUGH ABOUT IT EITHER. THAT TAKES COURAGE. COURAGE SEEMS TO BE A RARE TRAIT THESE DAYS. I’M TALKING MORAL COURAGE. AND IF YOU’VE GOT THAT, THE PHYSICAL COURAGE NATURALLY FOLLOWS.

   AS YOU , I LIVE IN THE STATES, AND HAVE BEEN HERE FOR DECADES. SO THIS ISN’T MY FIGHT. IT’S THE ISLANDER’S FIGHT. HAD I REMAINED AN ISLANDER, I’D PROBABLY BE DEAD BY NOW. THE ISLANDERS NEED TO STAND BEHIND SOMEONE WITH THAT COURAGE AND RESOLVE, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY NOT EVER LET HIM/HER DOWN. THE FEAR IS, HOWEVER, IS THAT THEY WILL. HISTORY HAS SHOWN IT.. THAT ISLANDER PR’S WILL JUDAS OUT ( OR SOMEHOW UNDERMINE/SABOTAGE THEIR EFFORTS ) PEOPLE LIKE THAT. AND THE U.S ESTABLISHMENT KNOWS IT. OR, THEY’LL ( U.S. ) SEE TO IT. SO NOTHING CHANGES. I’D LIKE TO BE PROVEN WRONG.

   I COME FROM A FAMILY OF WARRIORS/FIGHTERS. ON BOTH SIDES. MY FATHER WAS ONE WHOM WAS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY FOR THE U.S. LONG AGO, DURING ANOTHER B.S. 10 + YR CONFLICT. HE WAS A PR. AND ALSO THE FIRST USAF F-4 LOSS. PRIOR, HE RESCUED TWO NAVY JET FIGHTERS LOST AT SEA. THERE WERE OTHERS THAT SERVED, HONORABLY; AS NCO’S/OFFICERS IN COMBAT. I ALSO SERVED. AND I KICK MYSELF AND OFTEN ASK MYSELF: WHY? WHAT BECAME OF ALL OF IT/MY PREDECESSOR’S SERVICE/SACRIFICE? WHAT WAS IT ALL FOR?

   I THINK YOU KNOW WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN ON THE ISLAND.

10. Puerto Rico has been under the control of the Republican since 1898. They think just like Donald Trump. Money Money Money and more money. I wonder way the united States have not SOLD Puerto Rico to another Country for the same amount that Puerto Rico has to Pay to the Banks. Why sale it Piece by Piece. The people and the Island belongs to America and the people are also America Modern Slaves in there own legal TERMS by Congress who is in full control of Puerto Rico is Legally a slave island. That’s way it’s not a State.
    We are just like the American Indians Living in Reservations,Control By the American Congress giving them only the Necessaries of life in there own Land, I would like to know if they can vote for the President, Congress, State wide Elections and Local officials other then their own Tribe Conceal,”Just like Puerto Rico” The American Indians are not Free living on the land this country have giving them ???? Just like the People Of Puerto Rico living on an Island that does not belong to the people, Their for we are SLAVES in these Modern Times.
    The United Nations is not in the Habit of Freeing People on their own Countries around the world. The united States are just giving the people FALSE Dreams.
    Back in the 30’s 40’s And 50’s when the United State’s Farmers Needed people to help them work their Land and Hundred’s of them came from Puerto Rico Including Migrant’s from other Countries Even people from Mexico going to the West to help the Land. Today we live in modern time’s The farmers have Modern Equipment and their is no need to have 40 or 50 People to work the Land But this country have a lot of Poor Neighborhoods in every State working for the minimum Wage depending on which state you happen to live.
    No to long ago some States like Arizona and other States went to Puerto Rico to get Bilingual Teachers To Teach their student’s. I ask you WHY and Why those the united states take the Puerto Rico’s Military to fight their own Wars to fight Americas WARS???? WHY. We are Slaves in modem Time just like the Negro’s of this country that came to Pick Cotton and helping them fight a war so they can be Free, This is Modem Times and are they Free, The Jails are full today.
