Beaches of Puerto Rico are sold to US billionaires…by Puerto Rican government traitors
On Friday June 24, with only one “No” vote, the Legislative Assembly of Puerto Rico overwhelmingly approved PC 2853: a bill which transfers beaches in huge coastal areas – including Vieques, Culebra, Condado, Isla Verde, Isabela, Lajas, Cabo Rojo, Guánica and Rincón – into “private” ownership.
If this bill becomes law, all “private” beaches in these areas will be closed to the Puerto Rican public. But the DEEPEST significance of this bill, is that the politicians of Puerto Rico are knowingly…intentionally…doing the DIRTY WORK of the Financial Control Board, before they even arrive on the island.
The POLITICS of this bill are important to understand. Please note the following:

It was introduced in the very last days of the legislative session. This allowed little time for public review, debate or amendment. Probably, many legislators did not even read it.

The near-unanimity was striking: both parties approved it, with only one of the 51 representatives (José Luis Báez Rivera) voting against it. This is especially shocking, since it involves the controversial selling of public beaches…which should belong to everyone.
The sale of just one beach to a Marriott Hotel in Carolina, has met with years of fierce opposition.
Yet here, the politicians transferred dozens of them in a great hurry…with no floor debate and a near-unanimous vote.

The author of the bill, who also introduced it, was Angel Matos García…the PPD representative from CAROLINA.
Carolina is where Tito Kayak, Playas P’al Pueblo and hundreds of environmental activists have demonstrated against the Marriott Hotel take-over of their public beach…the Balneario de Carolina.…for over a decade.

They’re even calling the mayor of Carolina a “traitor,” and heckling him at all his speeches.
That is why Carolina, PR was specifically excluded from the beach give-away bill. By pre-arrangement, the PPD allowed Matos García to become a “local hero” in his district…by making sure that nine other beach areas got hit, but not his home district of CAROLINA.
By doing this, the PPD also avoided a confrontation with an entrenched and organized opponent (Tito Kayak and the activists of Carolina) which could discredit the entire PPD.

The government buried the odor of their beach scam, beneath many layers of sugar-coated frosting.
They trumpeted $470 million for “contributions to the pension system,” $80 million for “non-profit and cultural organizations,” $40 million for a cancer care center, $25 million for a medical center, and a $30 million supplement to the teacher’s retirement system. There was no mention of their “privatization” of Puerto Rico’s beaches.

DOING THE DIRTY WORK of the FINANCIAL CONTROL BOARD
Aside from all of the following:
- The sale of public beaches to US billionaires, in nine major coastal areas
- The legislative end-of-session cover-up
- The collaboration of both the PPD and PNP
- The near-unanimous vote
- The lack of public hearings or public input
- The appearance of bribery behind the scenes
There is one thing even more disturbing than all of these: and that is, the entire government of Puerto Rico just did the Financial Control Board’s dirty work.
If the Financial Control Board stormed into Puerto Rico and did this – grabbed Puerto Rico’s beaches and handed them to US billionaires and their hotel chains – there would be demonstrations all over the island.
The whole world would see the naked colonialism of the US.
But in the midnight hour, very quietly, the government of Puerto Rico just did it for them.
Why would they do this?
What possible motive could they all have, for betraying the entire island?
A FEW POSSIBLE MOTIVES
Here are some possible motives.
- A U.S. billionaire named John Paulson owns the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel, the San Juan Beach Hotel, the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort, La Concha Rennaisance Hotel, a $500 million condominium complex on Dorado Beach, and a $250 million luxury condo development in Palmas del Mar. He has spent close to $2 billion in Puerto Rico, and he also owns 8.6% of Banco Popular.
- Another U.S. billionaire named Nicholas Prouty built the largest marina in the Caribbean, Marina Puerto del Rey, at a cost of $450 million. He also spent another $108 million on Ciudadela, a luxury condo and shopping complex in Santurce.
- The 3,000 acre Roosevelt Roads complex will soon announce a “Master Developer” who will construct high-rise office buildings, a shopping center, shops, restaurants, a cruise port area, a marine terminal for speedboats, golf courses, and “multiple entertainment areas.”
- The Financial Control Board will soon designate many more “construction” and “Public Private Partnership” projects, all over the island.
- Acts 20 and 22, passed by this same Puerto Rico legislature, will bless all these real estate deals with 20-year tax exemptions on all dividend, interest, and capital gains income. On the island, a popular business pamphlet reads: “Sol, arena y cero impuestos…Sun, sand and zero taxes.”
PATRONAGE, NOT PRINCIPLES
Both the PNP and PPD have large party machineries (78 mayors & mayoralties!) They need heavy patronage sources, in order to survive as political parties.
Now that ELA has collapsed, they desperately need to find, and tap into, a new income stream.
These billion-dollar empires growing all over the island, will be the new source of contracts, consultant agreements, and jobs for their family and friends.
And so, the two parties got together, and did what corrupt politicians will always do.
They will sell the beaches of your island.
They will yank the sun and sea…give them to John Paulson…and make us all pay to see them , or feel them on our faces.
They will do it by a huge majority vote…both PPD and PNP…working together… showing their complete loyalty to the billionaires… while the FBI tells the rest of us to “remain calm” and “report any suspicious activity.”
The only suspicious activity that I can see, is the theft of Puerto Rico by its own “political leaders.”
Always remember this: the PPD and PNP are like Jaws…an eating machine…they run on patronage, not principles.
Not even beaches…or the wind, sand and stars… are sacred to them.

The same devils who invaded the island and imposed wage slavery on the Puerto Ricans. ALL THIS NONSENSE about a bill being passed is just another distraction from the real issue: We cannot and will not be respected as a people until we become independent, and stop asking these devils to accept us or give us a handout.

I say the things I do because it breaks my heart and soul that the corruption, collusion and complicity on the Island of my birth and early childhood has reached this HORRIFIC level of toxic and deadly infection that is undeniably killing the Island’s people.
What has happened on the Island did NOT happen as the result of any of the useless plebiscites or the shabby and crooked tenure of any politician in the last century…drug-addicted or not.
The Island is where it is today because not surprisingly, the filthy game of politics has silenced the voices of reason, common sense and a commitment to the common good of the Island’s population. This is nothing new. The world witnesses the excesses of power and the abuses that follow everyday, while the hapless populations suffer the consequences of their corrupt non-existent “leadership”.
What makes me so angry is that the same idiot spokes-payasos CONTINUE with their predictable “baba politica” about “you did it”, “NO, YOU did it”…within the context of the undeniably lop-sided, one-sided “relationship” with the BIGGEST political machine on the planet…the US.
There is no doubt that future will hold a “solution” to the “Puerto Rico Problem”, but I don’t know what it is and I have absolutely NO faith in the Insular leadership or in the vulgar assortment of loud-mouthed “spokes-clowns” and definitely NOT in any of the politically prostituted faux-intelligentsia on the Island or on the USMainland. My professional background is in the American academy and I have had a front-row seat for decades of the very ugly performances of the Pseudo-Rican spokes-putos in the US and they have as much credibility as a horny dog loose at a dog show.
Thanks again…We will ALL get through this because I have faith that the Island’s population and all of those who have come to live on the Island from around the world will protect and promote the livelihood and survival of the Island and its culture and people….thanks.

I am not a Puerto Rican (pity). I am not an American. I am a Canadian who has fallen in love with your island, its people and it’s rich culture. I was first smitten in 1981, and I have been back many times since – the last being 2015.
It saddens me seeing how desperate things have become for those who remain on the island. I am especially disgusted with the way the US government is dealing with this debt crisis, and how by using PROMESA they have signalled to the entire world how the interests of Wall Street vulture funds come before the people.
In every sense of the word Puerto Ricans are being F****d. What a shame this should happen to a wonderful and proud people. It breaks my heart to think, I may never visit again due to the inevitable social and economic strife that is about to descend upon the island and its people.
Thank you all for the great memories I will carry with me forever. You have a unique island, warm and friendly people, and a rich culture. Those things are worth preserving and protecting against the Republican hordes and their Wall Street parasites.

My dear wife Besila is still here but in the last stages of Alzheimers.. We were lovers of the beaches and are shocked that they might take them away from us. If she could, she would be out there fighting in the legislature and the courts. Soon I’m afraid all we will have left are our beautiful memories. So angry that a natural right of the Puerto Rican people has been betrayed. The beaches belong to all the people. There has never been problems between Puerto Ricans and tourists in the use of beaches. This is motivated by racism and elitism that has no place in people sharing natural resources. It is especially horrendous when indigenous people are denied access to natural resources of thier homeland. This privatization of beaches must not and cannot be allowed.

Puerto Rico’s current disastrous fiscal malaise and its concurrent political psychosis and schizophrenia is nothing more than the unavoidable end result of a century-old bait-and-switch, “a-pastel-in-every-pot”, “we-know-what-is-best-for-you-Brit’Nee-Consuelo-Mercedes-so-just-keep-shaking-your-maracas” political con-job.
Since 1898, the prevailing land-rich shabby patricians or the grass-roots slimy vende-puto political class of the day decided immediately that they either join with Uncle Sam and cooperate with him or they would have no choice but to:
1. Abandon their holdings on the Island and return to Spain (none fled to the Bronx, Miami or Tampa)
2. Join the Generation of 1898 elite emigre class in Madrid, Barcelona, NYC or other European locations
3. Go to join members of their land-rich and extended families in Cuba or the Dominican Republic.
4. Foment doomed “uprisings” against an uber-armed, militaristic colonial, imperial invader, the results of which are STILL barely known to the world community today.
The entire political ecology of these dismal elements will not be rectified or cured anytime soon. It will be a long, time-consuming process that will require EVEN MORE patience and diligence on the part of the Islands’ residents to completely wipe the political slate clean of the 10 decades of filth that has accumulated on it.
There is no doubt that the long-standing rotten culture of corruption, personal self-interest and the swarm of ankle-biting, ass-kissing politicians at both ends of San Juan to Washington, DC political tug-of-war will be a lengthy, painful and sordid one. There is no magic unicorn flying over the Island carrying a savior sprinkling rainbows and gold-plated credit cards.
After a century of living in a cave of complicity, corruption and putrid “caca”, it will take a long time to clean this mess up and the maggot-swarms on both sides is not going to stop feasting on the cadaver that is Puerto Rico today.
In the meantime we ALL owe it to our Island home and brothers and sisters regardless of our current zip-code to keep the eyes and attention of the world on the oozing sore on the face of our beautiful and bedraggled island.
Unlike many others here, I DO NOT purport to hold the keys to the kingdom of Puerto Rico’s salvation, but I do have faith that with the world watching, finer minds on BOTH sides of the political wall will prevail and Puerto Rico will for once in FIVE centuries be free to raise it’s head with dignity and will be free to fly as it has never soared before.
But (again), I hold no hope that any remedy or resolution will come from our sold-out “academic” or “faux-intelligentsia” or the laughable “political” class that long ago sold itself out for free shiny things and vapid titles after their disgraced names.
But be warned, when the tide begins to change and a new era of REAL change begins to occur on the Island AT THE BALLOT BOX, the “quitate tu para meterme yo” syndrome will immediately kick-in and you will see the same old spokes-payasos but in different clown-suits.

GREED is often a cause for Evil and does not come from any particular race or group, whether it’s the Caribs killing, raping, and stealing from the Taino’s, white European Spaniards killing, raping, and stealing from the Boriquens, the US beating Spain in a war and taking Puerto Rico from them as a Territory of its own, or home grown Puerto Ricans in power stealing the lively hoods from their own people. Greed is Evil and I am always suspicious of the new crew who wants the power. It’s easy and effective to identify one source as the enemy causing everyone’s grief but, the Puerto Rican people overwhelmingly vote to stay part of the US as a territory and almost equally to become a state. Both you and your Luz Selenia were lucky to have shared such lovely memories.
Many of us on and off the Island have similar memories of the beaches in Puerto Rico.
I myself can still recall (as a 3 y/o) running naked in the surf on the beach near the Guajataca Tunnel in Quebradillas with the salt air stinging my eyes, where my Corsica-born grandfather would also take me for long rides on his Paso Fino horse along the violent shore a long, long time ago.
You are not alone in your heartbreak over the disgraceful behavior of Puerto Rico’s corrupt and treacherous maggot-class.
In time, this issue will be resolved a court room.
I have no doubt.
In the meantime, focus on your memories of your loving wife and the times you shared together.
They will sustain you as no other memory can.
NO ONE can ever take that away from you…NO ONE!
People like you are the very ones that Islanders have always welcomed and embraced.
Don’t stop loving the times and memories you have of us and our Island.
We need all the positive regard and energy we can get in these dark, difficult and dismal times.

As long as corrupt politicians and opportunistic billionaires keep exploiting and running Puerto Rico, the people and the island will suffer the consequences. However, it is not up to people living outside the island to create change. People living abroad can create awareness. The change needs to come from within Puerto Rico. From a government that truly wants what is best for the island. From people who really want to prosper, not sit back and let the current system roll. Change needs to happen, if not, PR will be owned and controlled by outside forces.

Hello I am not puerto rican but i wish to help..my reasons are simple my son attended college.. two months before his graduation he was in serious car accident.. the puerto rican community saved his life and gave the best in medical care .. in fact better that where he came from in new york ..so I am coming to puerto rico in July..I would like to help …preferably a single female parent… some one in hardship with housing, economic or similiar situation … please email me as i do not come here checking messages or forward my interest to someone you might know ..I may no be able to help everyone .. but i will answer each request… thank you Carl email: Orlandent@juno.com

I was in Puerto Rico with the U.S. navy twice 1964-1969, 1983-1986. I married a Puerto Rican girl who I loved dearly for 49 years. She just went home to the Lord in February of this year. I loved the island and it’s people and still do. My wife and I used to love to walk along the beaches holding hands. We were free to walk on any and all beaches. I join with you in saying this is a disgrace! What were your congressmen/women thinking to allow private ownership of this wonderful resource? My wife was Borinquen to the max! I miss her dearly! And, I miss those fabulous walks along your beautiful shores! God bless Puerto Rico!!!

This is how I feel right now: violated. After our infamous “financial situation” surfaced to the whole world, I have had the feeling that something bigger was hiding behind this scenario and that something like this could be suggested to be used as payment for the debt, but wao, I never imagined it was going to be in the scenario this soon!!! My fellow Puertorricans, why didn’t we do something to stop this debacle? How did we let ourself fall in this trap? Why didn’t we listened to the voices of those Patriots who live and died warning us about the agenda behind our new owners? To those who helped in one way or another for this debackle to take place, weren’t you aware that History has proven that Uncle Sam has always been a wolf dressed as a sheep? Did you think those so called investors were fools? Remember the law of the harvest: “whatever you saw is what you reap”. They threw you their “hook” and you fell for it (or you were as much ignorant as to think you were going to outsmart them). Now, the process of fleecing is starting and like sheep, we are going to be taken to the slaughter. Even though our future seems so screw, I’m a firm believer that if my people repent of their bad deeds and in humility we ask for God for mercy and forgiveness, I know that He is our only hope to help us get on our feet and to lead us into victory against those which have declared war to us. Please wake up and don’t let our enemies triumph. It’s time to define our status. It is obvious that the dream of a fare union with the USA as a Commonwealth it’s a big fat lie. Awake my people and as one, take courage to once an for all, define our status. For the well being of our Island, we cannot afford keep being a colony of the USA any longer.

I really think the u.s. need to come in here and clean this place up because I’ve been here a year and Puerto Rico and I think Puerto Ricans are the most laziest people they don’t believe in customer service they just don’t care and when you have a don’t care attitude guess what everybody else don’t care so this is my opinion I really think that us needs to come and clean this place up and manage the money because there’s a lot of corruption going on around here

The people rule. They can remove those politicians from office and elect new reps, to put the old politicians in jail, then to rescind the sale of those beaches due to the sneaky manner in which it was done, the whole contract was in bad faith and not valid.
Better yet, wait until they develop the land and then use eminent domain to take it back from the hotel owners and developers.

Any country or island that cannot govern its self will be govern, and the out come is always the same death to its people . we are victims of our desire to live someone else dream, the american dream was never a puerto rican dream, I’m sure the people of puerto rico had their own dreams, what is becoming clear in the past months that the americans do not care about this island we love and must fight for her freedom or she will be taken from us, my mother sent mangos grown on the island and when i bit into this mango i tasted how sweet and pure our island can be, i was born in new york city i don’t know what the people in puerto rico had to live under, my farther Victor Guevara and my mother Esterbanir Cruz left Puerto Rico when they were young to work and live in New York but what the Puerto Ricans had to endure was not the American dream but a nightmare, the history of men in power is to stay i n power at all coast, we have seen how the jewish people were murderd in Germany this is how governments who are drunk with power treat people. they will destroy our island if all we do is talk, we the people must find a way to unit and take back our island that was taken from us many years ago, but in order to do this we the people must look at the part we played and not just point the finger at a broken government that calls its self democratic

Oh no, they can’t let this happen! The USA already looks at Puerto Rico, and Puerto Ricans, as lazy, living off the government trash, as it is…when in fact if you have lived in Puerto Rico, you know that most are college graduates, doctors, etc and are people who want to succeed…. if this happens soon Puerto Rico will be sold in parts and pieces and we will not have anything to call our own. Enough is enough. We Puerto Ricans have not gotten respect in over 100 years. The time is now to speak up. Regardless if the U.S. keeps saying No. No. No. This is ridiculous.

It’s a bill, but not yet a law, and we can take this up to court, the Supreme Court of PR. It’s legislative malpractice not to bring this to the knowledge of constituents!!! All should be impeached!

How much more money does John Paulson need and his buddies at the expense of our children’s education, elderly, Hospitals closing, etc.

As the ugly, ugly, ugly and irrefutable stories of Puerto Rico’s century-old economic rape, cosmic battering and internal betrayal come to light and the names of “las familias mas finas” y “los politicos mas dedicados” appear again and again in the media of today, the skies over Fortaleza grow darker and darker even at mid-day.
However, those same families and soiled political “dynasties” appear today in contexts VASTLY different from the ones of the past.
You remember…the headlines under which these “notables” posed for the local and USMainland news-cameras grinning at the opening of yet another poorly-planned strip-mall without sufficient parking while making YET again making room for more McDonalds, Pizza Huts and Burger Kings, one factor remains consistent…they all fattened their wallets as they stole the future prospects of their brothers and sisters that dried-up faster than a puddle in a desert.
The rich got richer and the poor got poorer or the latter just jumped on an airplane to JFK, MIA, EWR, BOS, ORD, LAX or HOU for new lives with at least a chance to seek a future that they could even dream about on the Island.
The lines that once separated the most corrupt, immoral and indefensible of Island politicians, on BOTH sides of the political aisle, often with the help of the USMainland-born-and/or-raised “vende-putos-generic-La-Tinos” slithering in their token appointments and “elected” positions from ghettoes of NYC to the housing projects of Houston to the “caserios” of Miami to the Taco Bell “barrios” of CA) have become as blurred as the lines drawn by developers scratching NEWER lines on the once public Island beaches.
But one thing is even clearer today…the working-class, the middle-class, the under-employed, the out-sourced, the down-sized, the pink-slipped, the denied access to health care and education have lost even more of the fragile toe-hold they once held on the “American Dream” in Puerto Rico…they lost the “boricua unity” that they apparently NEVER had, but were told they did, if they just waved those “banderitas” more hysterically and bought more Goya Beans.
Yes…the last chapters of Puerto Rico’s fall from dusty, archaic Euro-Caribbean outpost of the 1890s to American Love-Boat parking lot of today have yet to be written, but if the last 10 decades are any indication, the Titanic has a better chance of rising to the surface in the Bermuda Triangle than Puerto Rico does of ever gaining its Independence or become a fully bonafide American state.
Even a dog kicked and kicked and kicked learns at some point that his “master” is not to be trusted. Puerto Rico obviously has not awakened from its canine coma.
Politicians on the Island since the 1898 have been sleeping with the devil and selling their own daughters to him and NO ONE should be surprised that their spawn is so hideous and hollow.
Let’s all do all we can do to make the Island’s plight known to the planet…There is NO other way, that its deplorable condition will be resolved otherwise. Uncle Sam is NEVER going to tell his Island concubine her chains are too rusty or too tight…never!

The previous bill of PROMESA included the transfer of 1300 acres of land in Vieques to the PR government and with the pressure and media coverage we were able to eliminate the language from the new bill. Now these sneaky legislation got away with it anyway. On another note, Act 20 & 22 was not approved by this administration, but Fortuno. They are all a bunch of scumbanks

This sale in the senate happened the same day as a protest against the fiscal control board.
Regarding Culebra, the law is not Constitional if there is no endorsement from Culebra’s Authority of Conservation and Development for the island.
