Zika virus RUMOR is starting to affect tourism in Puerto Rico

Book - 12-10

When the CDC announced that 1 out of 5 Puerto Ricans (700,000 people) would contract the Zika virus in 2016, the news swept through the island.

So far, there has been no drastic Zika crisis…but thanks to the CDC announcement, the tourism industry has been affected. It all started with the Pittsburgh Pirates…

On May 6, the US Major League Baseball announced that due to “Zika concerns,” the Pittsburgh Pirates and Florida Marlins were moving their planned May 30-31 series from Puerto Rico to Miami.

Then reports began to circulate, that Hollywood stars were refusing to film in Puerto Rico, due to the Zika reports.

Then two days ago, on May 12, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) announced that close to half the participants in an upcoming October 17-21 WBO conference had cancelled their trip, again because of Zika.

With Puerto Rico teetering on bankruptcy, every tourist dollar becomes more vital to the island economy. The CDC caused this panic response with its prediction of “700,000 Puerto Ricans with Zica.”

At the very least, the US congress could approve some Zika funds for Puerto Rico. If the CDC is killing the island’s tourist industry, with an as-yet unfounded prediction, then the very least the US government could do, is provide some public health funds for this plague which they predicted.

So far, the only “plague” in Puerto Rico has been on the thousands of small businesses, that depend on the tourist trade for their survival.

In the last month alone…professional baseball, professional boxing, and Hollywood film productions have backed out of Puerto Rico.

This Zika situation must be clarified ASAP…before a domino effect sets in… before more companies, and more tourists, abandon their plans to visit Puerto Rico.

  1. They continue with their economic sabotage with propaganda, plain and simple. The financial vultures have their talons fully exposed as they continue headlong to devour their prey.

  2. This is such Bullshit…. Instead of funding appropriately the Federal Healthcare Agencies such as the CDC, the “do nothing CONGRESS” has created a situation that promotes fear and divisiveness among all it’s citizens. What are their plans when the ZIKA virus spreads to the mainland as far north as possibly Minnesota including Washington DC? Blame Puerto Rico. Give me a break!

  3. Since the U.S. Baseball teams balked at playing in Puerto Rico due to the Zika hysteria, I motion that the U.S. forfeit the Olympic Games in Brazil due to picking one too many fights with Puerto Rico–a country that is being pummeled while it’s still on its knees. Watch out theirs more Zika mosquitos in Brazil. “KARMA”.

  4. We were there in April and never saw a mosquito, let alone getting bitten. Like West Nile, the cure was quick and simple.

  5. The Baseball Teams went to Florida, but there are cases of Sika in Florida.
The cases of Sika in Florida came from travelers that went to South American from the USA. Non came from Puerto Rico to the USA!
