Historic Photo of the Day: Military Madness in Puerto Rico
At its military height, the US controlled 13% of the land area of Puerto Rico.
The US Navy was using Vieques for artillery practice, exploding 5 million pounds of ordnance per year.
Camp Santiago occupied 12,789 acres in the town of Salinas.
Ramey Air Force Base covered 3,796 acres in Aguadilla.
Fort Buchanan had 4,500 acres in metropolitan San Juan – with its own pier facilities, ammunition storage areas, and a massive railroad network into San Juan Bay.
And, of course, Roosevelt Roads was the largest naval station in the world.

And where did FREEDOM fit into this military madness? It’s nothing but a concentration camp. Patrick Henry once said ” Give me freedom or give me death”. This is death at its door.
