In 1967, Piri Thomas published his memoir Down These Mean Streets.
As hyped by the New York Times, “a man from Spanish Harlem makes you live with him in hell.”
Some people would disagree with the characterization of El Barrio as “hell.”
But Piri did write an excellent book.

WAR AGAINST ALL PUERTO RICANS
Good novel. Another must read for persons interested in Puerto Rican literature in the USA. Have never forgotten the descriptions of Piri about having a hole on his arm for injecting heroin. They should do a movie about the novel… or maybe they have but with another name and with other characters not Puerto Rican. It is very relevant now with the Heroin crisis in the USA.
