When history comes alive: the many faces of Guerra Contra Todos Los Puertorriqueños

War Against All Puerto Ricans: Revolution and Terror in America’s Colony

In Ponce, under the guidance of Prof. Elia M. Vega, the students of Universidad Interamericana have discovered the book War Against All Puerto Ricans: both in English and Spanish.

The following photos are a montage of the public readings of the book.

If Public Law 53 still existed, these students (and myself) would all be in jail, for “seditious conspiracy against the United States.”

Students Reading

We have come a long way from Public Law 53.

But we still have a long way to go.

To put it simply…until Puerto Rico gets the U.S. off its back, we must keep writing books, and reading them, and sharing information…because knowledge is power.

As George Orwell once said, “He who controls the past, controls the future.”

  1. upon reading your comment, J A Rivera, my first thought is that this blog, indeed, is an attempt to apply different and potentially far more effective methods of usefulness based on learning from the past.whilst living in the Now as regards the relationship between PR and the mainland. what freedoms/personal controls there are, may be fully exploited. that the results are distasteful at times cannot be helped by those that still suffer from the experiences post public law 53. far more exceptional is that you cannot see the microsteps ‘forward’ since then and are not filled with wonder as to why that is.
i am no stranger to feeling irritation at others’ points of view from time to time. i have found, hard truth that it is, that in some way i am failing to see myself fully in the other’s position. its a very tough lesson to take on but it is also a great mind opener, if you can stick it out.

  4. “If Public Law 53 still existed, BU IT DOES NOT . . . And yes “He who controls the past, controls the future.” BUT ONLY if you use it to learn from it and NOT TO LIVE IN IT , , , , AS YOU DO.
