I have a terrible admission to make. I was starting to feel sorry for Luis Ferrao.

He called Albizu Campos a “Fascist” and called me a liar: but after 16 years in New York State politics and 4 years in the New York State Assembly, I can tell you with great confidence…there is no sadder, more pathetic sight than a man falling apart in public.

So after responding to the 29 lies of Luis Ferrao, and exposing him as a world-class liar, I was ready to walk away. But then he felt a strange need to explain where his money came from, after he published his disgusting book on Don Pedro.

“No Puerto Rican government reward was bestowed upon me for writing my book on Albizu!” he declaimed, in the pages of Diálogo-UPR. The money came “from the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) in Washington DC!”

This is where it starts to become tragic.

The CIES program was created – and is owned, operated and financed – by the U.S. Department of State.

They don’t even try to hide it!

So Ferrao is saying “My research is not for sale! The Puerto Rican government did not pay for my two-year trip to Paris…the U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE paid it!”

This is like telling a judge, “Your Honor, I did not kill anyone with a knife…I killed them with a gun!”

Why Ferrao felt compelled to make this bizarre admission, is a great mystery. Perhaps you can explain it to me. Here is the page at Diálogo-UPR:

The grant covered round-trip airfare for Ferrao and his wife, tuition at the Sorbonne, a “book allowance” of $1,500, “baggage allowance” of $200, a “wife allowance” of $1,250, and a “maintenance allowance” of $9,500. The cash placed in Ferrao’s hand totaled $12,450. In 2015 dollars, this equals $22,700.

A year’s tuition at the Sorbonne is roughly $7,500 for post-doctoral programs.

So Ferrao’s grant – as arranged by the U.S. State Department – totaled roughly $30,000 per year.

The French Foreign Ministry threw in another 50,000 francs (See: p. 8 of the Ferrao award letters), also facilitated by the US State Department.

Ferrao was quite taken by France. His current Facebook photo is from the Champs Elysees in Paris, not the classrooms or library stacks of UPR:

The photo is as strange as Ferrao’s admission of guilt. He looks like a plastic man, a spineless figure at Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum. 

Even I was feeling sorry for his rapidly unraveling career…until he threw up his U.S. State Dept. grant, as “proof” of his fair and balanced history, when he wrote about Don Pedro the Fascist.

You’re on your own, Ferrao.

You are your own worst enemy.

When you stop lying about Don Pedro, I’ll stop telling the truth about you.
