War Against All Puerto Ricans: Revolution and Terror in America’s Colony

This photo was taken in 1941 in the elegant El Escambrón ballroom/nightclub.

El Escambrón was the swankiest “American style” venue in Puerto Rico at the time.

With World War II raging, it was also a time of heightened patriotism and military indoctrination.

Of historical interest: El Escambrón is the place where Police Chief Riggs invited Pedro Albizu Campos to lunch, and offered him $150,000 to “go easy on the Nationalism stuff.”
