“I will revoke the U.S. citizenship of all Puerto Ricans,” says Donald Trump?

War Against All Puerto Ricans: Revolution and Terror in America’s Colony

Long before the GOP convention in Cleveland, the U.S. presidential campaign had turned bizarre.

Late in 2015, Rev. Al Sharpton declared that “people from Puerto Rico would all have to go back, if their parents were undocumented.” In other words, Sharpton thought that Puerto Ricans are not inherently U.S. citizens. Luckily for Sharpton, he quickly withdrew his comments.

Then in New York City, while speaking to a group of investment bankers and hedge fund owners, Donald Trump allegedly declared that if elected, he would revoke the U.S. citizenship of all Puerto Ricans because they are “not part of the American race.”

Donald Trump to Puerto Ricans: You’re Fired!

The speech was reported in multiple news sites, but others doubted their accuracy. In fact, the news sources are questionable…suggestive of a hoax.

Here are five more reports of Donald Trump’s speech:

http://www.elespectador.com/noticias/elmundo/criticas-supuesta-propuesta-de-trump-de-quitar-ciudadan-articulo-581273

The reports were also picked up in this Univision Forum:

http://www.univision.com/noticias/politica/trump-quitaria-la-ciudadania-americana-a-los-residentes-de-puerto-rico

Latino Rebels stated that the speech did not occur:

http://www.latinorebels.com/2015/08/22/the-trumped-up-story-of-trumps-puerto-rico-statement/

Overall, the news sources are questionable.

If the sources are accurate, then Trump is saying that Puerto Ricans can be drafted to die in America’s wars. They can sew dresses in the garment district for 50 years, for less than minimum wage. They can pay 20% to 50% more for U.S. products, that are shoved down their throat on the island.

They can pay a $72 billion “public debt” to U.S. bankers.

They can cook, wash dishes, and clean Trump’s hotels.

They can die in Orlando.

But when it comes to “all men are created equal,” Puerto Ricans can forget about it. That part of the Declaration of Independence was not meant for us.

THE MOST DISTURBING THING

But what is most disturbing about this…is not Donald Trump.

The most alarming fact, is that Trump has received strong — and passionate — support from the American public. Newsweek reported that Trump’s numbers swelled from 24 percent to 32 percent: immediately after his comments, whether true or not, were reported.

http://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-polls-republicans-winnning-365199

And now, Donald Trump is the GOP nominee for president of the US.

All of this leads to one question…what kind of country, what kind of world are we living in? After 118 years of “American dreams” and “American democracy,” after a century of sweating and saving and believing in a better tomorrow…

Is this what many Americans still think of us?

Donald Trump should never be president of the United States. But he is rapidly becoming our national therapist…a deep mirror into the American psyche…where angels and demons and hidden resentments, have been festering for many years.

It is a cynical and dangerous process.

Not even Trump himself, is aware of the fire that he is playing with.

Or how deeply it will burn.

  3. I think Trump is a disgrace to the United States, and to the human race. He is an an obvious racist, and this is most obvious in his attitude toward Hispanics. When Puerto Rico was struck by a devastating hurricane a few years ago, his response to requests for aid were to shout, on television “You’re trying to break our budget!”
Look at the refugees from violence in Central America. They arrived at our Southern border seeking asylum, and what did Trump do? He put them in concentration camps and took away their children.

What is an Italian/ Americans and all who in migrated to this country from everywhere else in the world. Even the Pilgrims came to live in the USA from England and that is USA history.
All American Indians were in the land of the free before anybody else from Europe, that is USA history.
The president is a citizen after being brought over from German Stock. That is also history.
When we start to feel better than other citizens we should read our history. This goes back to the first President. The first laws of this land were created in the 17th century by immigrants who arrived here.
So the next time you feel Superior to other citizens remember that is how Hitler became a dictator racist as have all other of the world’s bigoted racists came to be.
Keep a watchful eye in the true future of this country.

Form your own Army, Air Force, and Navy, develop a form of government, I’m sure a dictatorship would suffice, and most importantly arrange your own self funded, social security type of system and a public assistance system such as there is in the US, known as welfare. Then, you can round up all your compadres and have those that want, leave the US never to return until some kind of immigration agreement is developed between PR and the US. Of course, during this period of international development no US citizens will be allowed to visit or invest in anything PR neither will travel from PR into the US be allowed for any reason. (front page)
‘US colonial exploitation of Puerto Rico has
    not changed’

    BY SETH GALINSKY
UNITED NATIONS — As working people in Puerto Rico are battered by a deepening crisis, and moves by Washington lay bare its denial of Puerto Rican sovereignty, supporters of independence took their fight to the U.N. Special Committee on Decolonization. Almost all of the nearly 60 people who addressed the annual hearing on the status of the island nation demanded freedom for long-time independence fighter Oscar López, including those opposed to the independence movement.
In 1950, Washington claimed that Puerto Rico was becoming a “self-governing territory.” But speaker after speaker at the June 20 hearing stated that, in fact, Puerto Rico has never ceased being a U.S. colony.

“Recent developments leave no room for the illusions, facades and deceits which have prevailed regarding the political status of Puerto Rico,” said Olga Sanabria for the Committee for Puerto Rico at the United Nations. The continued imprisonment of López, she added, symbolizes “the brutal imperial domination the people of Puerto Rico have been subjected to for more than 118 years,” as well as their resistance. (See box on page 6.)

López called from the federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana, and spoke with members of the U.N. committee during the hearing. The committee chair announced plans to visit him in prison later this year.

His daughter Clarisa López told the committee that her father’s “love for equality, justice and independence for Puerto Rico are intact.”

Many of those testifying referred to two U.S. Supreme Court decisions that highlight the colonial status of Puerto Rico. On June 13 the court ruled that the island’s government is barred from adopting its own bankruptcy laws. The week before the court held that the government of Puerto Rico is not “sovereign” and derives all its power from the U.S. Congress.

Speakers also denounced a federal bill backed by the Democratic and Republican parties and President Barack Obama that would give control of the finances and budget of the island’s colonial government to a seven-member board appointed by the U.S. president, to ensure that Puerto Rico’s $70 billion public debt is paid on the backs of working people.

The bondholders and hedge funds want to “use the debt as a guillotine against the rights of our people,” Pedro Irene Maymí, representing the CPT union federation, told the hearing. “It is unpayable.”

Supporters of the two main colonial parties in Puerto Rico — Gov. Alejandro García Padilla of the ruling Popular Democratic Party, which wants to keep the island as a U.S. “commonwealth,” and Ricardo Rosselló, head of the New Progressive Party, which says it should become the 51st U.S. state — denounced the recent U.S. moves at the hearing.

Both parties have been fighting for the right of the Puerto Rican government to declare bankruptcy and are chafing at Washington’s arrogance. Their goal is little different from that of the fiscal control board, but they want to ensure a greater say in the “restructuring” of Puerto Rico’s debt by the island’s capitalist class.

And both parties have been responsible for layoffs of more than 30,000 government workers, cuts in pensions, closing schools, hikes in taxes paid by working people and other measures undertaken to pay the burgeoning debt.

The Supreme Court decisions and the bill before Congress creating a fiscal board have made it “clear that nothing has changed in the U.S. colonial relation to Puerto Rico,” said Iris Colón Dipini on behalf of the Nationalist Party of Puerto Rico. “Our crisis is deeply rooted in Puerto Rico’s exploitation as a colony.”

    Who owes whom?
Héctor Pesquera, co-chair of the National Hostosiano Independence Movement, noted that after Washington invaded Puerto Rico in 1898 small farmers were forced to sell their land to U.S. agribusiness.
“Then they imposed U.S. citizenship on us to recruit our youth for the First World War. Since then we have been cannon fodder for the invading army,” he said. In addition, the U.S. military “caused billons of dollars of damage to the environment and health of the residents of the islands of Culebra and Vieques,” using them as a bombing range for more than six decades until forced out by mass protests.

Pesquera noted that U.S. companies take billions of dollars of profits out of Puerto Rico every year, while driving small stores and farmers out of business.

“So who owes whom?” he said.

    Workers the hardest hit
“Workers have been the hardest hit, we are the ones who have been more harshly weighed down by the consequences” of the crisis, said Irene Maymí. “Hundreds of thousands of our brothers and sisters have lost their jobs, many have been forced to emigrate, principally to the United States, making up what is now the largest migration in our history.”
“The fight for Puerto Rico’s independence is also in the interests of the vast majority of the people of the United States,” said Alyson Kennedy, Socialist Workers Party candidate for U.S. president. “The people of Puerto Rico and working people in the U.S. have common interests, a common enemy, a common struggle.”

The crisis in Puerto Rico is opening new opportunities, said Manuel Meléndez Lavandero, speaking for A Call to Action on Puerto Rico, based in New York. “Today there is a people that is beginning to look with curiosity at the possibility of an independent Puerto Rico.”

The U.N. Special Committee approved by consensus a resolution presented by Cuban Ambassador Humberto Rivero Rosario calling for the General Assembly to schedule a discussion on the status of Puerto Rico and for the committee to facilitate dialogue between Washington and Puerto Rico on self-determination and independence.

“The people of Puerto Rico continue to be unable to exercise their legitimate right to genuine self-determination,” Rivero said. “Despite U.S. economic, political and social domination, this sister nation has maintained its deep-rooted and unwavering vocation for independence,” a cause always supported by revolutionary Cuba.

The U.N. testimony capped a weekend of activity that began with a meeting to back the fight for independence of more than 200 at the 1199SEIU union hall in New York, organized by A Call to Action on Puerto Rico.

Several of the speakers at the hearing joined a late afternoon protest outside the United Nations calling for freedom for Oscar López as part of an international day of action.

  58. On March 2, 1917, the Jones–Shafroth Act was signed, collectively making Puerto Ricans United States citizens without rescinding their Puerto Rican citizenship. In 1922, the U.S. Supreme court in the case of Balzac v. Porto Rico ruled that the full protection and rights of the U.S constitution do not apply to residents of Puerto Rico until they come to reside in the United States proper. Luis Muñoz Rivera, who participated in the creation of the Jones-Shafroth Act, gave a speech in the U.S. House floor that argued in favor of Puerto Rican citizenship. He declared that “if the earth were to swallow the island, Puerto Ricans would prefer American citizenship to any citizenship in the world. But as long as the island existed, the residents preferred Puerto Rican citizenship.”[20] The Jones Act allowed locals to renounce the United States citizenship and remain exclusively Puerto Rican citizens, at the cost of being stripped of the right to vote.[21] Despite these arbitrary limitations, 287 residents completed the process to forfeit the statutory recognition.[21]

In 1952, upon U.S. Congress approving the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, also reaffirmed that Puerto Rican citizenship continued in full force. This was further reaffirmed in 2006 while the U.S. Senate probed into the President’s Task Force on Puerto Rico’s status.[22] In 1953, U.S Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge Jr., in a memorandum sent to the United Nations, recognized that “the people of Puerto Rico continue to be citizens of the United States as well as of Puerto Rico.”[5]

In the military campaigns of Afghanistan and Iraq, in what the United States and its allies refer to as the War on Terrorism, among those that have perished are the first three Puerto Rican women to die in a foreign combat zone. They are Specialist Frances M. Vega, Specialist Lizbeth Robles and Specialist Aleina Ramirez Gonzalez. On November 2, 2003, Specialist Frances M. Vega became the first female Puerto Rican soldier born in the United States to die in a war zone. A ground-to-air missile fired by insurgents in Fallujah hit the Chinook transport helicopter Vega was in; she was one of 16 soldiers who lost their lives in the crash that followed. On March 1, 2005 Specialist Lizbeth Robles became the first female Puerto Rican soldier born on the island to die in Iraq when her Humvee was involved in an accident. As of May 2004, there were 1,800 Puerto Rican soldiers stationed in Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Over 1,225 Puerto Ricans have died while serving for the United States. The names of those who perished in combat are inscribed in “El Monumento de la Recordacion” (Monument of Remembrance), which was unveiled on May 19, 1996 and is situated in front of the Capitol Building in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

General William W. Harris was quoted in the Puerto Rico Herald as saying, “No ethnic group has greater pride in itself and its heritage then the Puerto Rican people. Nor have I encountered any that can be more dedicated and zealous in support of the democratic principles for which the United States stands. Many Puerto Ricans have fought to the death to uphold them”.
    World War I

Upon the outbreak of World War I, the U.S. Congress approved the Jones-Shafroth Act, which granted Puerto Ricans citizenship. As a result, many Puerto Ricans, with the exception of women, became eligible for the military draft. On May 3, 1917, the Regiment recruited 1,969 men. The 295th and 296 Infantry Regiments were created in Puerto Rico. The first shot of World War I by the U.S. was fired in Puerto Rico by a Puerto Rican serving in the U.S. Army, Lieutenant Teofilo Marxuach. Lt. Marxuach was officer of the day at El Morro Castle, at the entrance to San Juan Bay, when war was declared. An armed supply ship for German submarines in the Atlantic, the Odenwald, tried to force its way out of the bay. Lieutenant Marxuach opened fire from the walls of the fortress and forced the ship to return to port and be interned.

On May 17, 1917, the Porto Rico Regiment of Infantry was sent to guard the Panama Canal in defense of the Panama Canal Zone.

By 1918, the Army realized that there was a shortage of physicians specializing in anesthesia, a low salary specialty required in the military operating rooms. Therefore, the Army reluctantly began hiring women physicians as civilian contract employees. The first Puerto Rican woman doctor to serve in the Army under contract was Dr. Dolores Piňero from San Juan. She was assigned to the San Juan base hospital where she worked as an anesthesiologist during the mornings and in the laboratory during the afternoons.

In New York, many Puerto Ricans joined the 396th Infantry Regiment which was mostly composed of Afro-Americans. They were not allowed to fight alongside their white counterparts; however, they were permitted to fight as members of a French unit in French uniforms. They fought along the Western Front in France, and their reputation earned them the nickname of “the Harlem Hell Fighters” by the Germans. Among them was Rafael Hernandez, considered by many as Puerto Rico’s greatest composer. The 396th was awarded French Croix De Guerre for battlefield gallantry by the President of France. The Porto Rico Regiment returned to Puerto Rico on March 1919 and was renamed the 65th Infantry Regiment under the Reorganization Act of June 4, 1920.

The need for a Puerto Rican National Guard unit became apparent to Major General Luis R. Esteves, who had served as instructor of Puerto Rican Officers for the Porto Rico Regiment of Infantry at Camp Las Casas in Puerto Rico. His request was met with the approval of the government and Puerto Rican Legislature. In 1919, the first regiment of the Puerto Rican National Guard was formed, and General Luis R. Esteves became the first official Commandant of the Puerto Rican National Guard.

Puerto Rico suffered greatly during the Great Depression of the 1930s, and many Puerto Ricans moved to the East Coast of the United States looking for jobs and a better way of life. On the island, the unemployment rate continued to rise and many Puerto Ricans who were unable to find a job looked to the Armed Forces of the United States as a source of employment. Not only were they paid better than at the few other available jobs, but they were also guaranteed three meals a day, clothing, and shelter.

    World War II

World War II was the first conflict in which women, other than nurses, were allowed to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces. However, when the United States entered World War II, Puerto Rican nurses volunteered for service but were not accepted into the Army or Navy Nurse Corps. As a result, many of the island’s women work force migrated to the mainland U.S. to work in the factories which produced military equipment. In 1944, the Army Nurse Corps decided to actively recruit Puerto Rican nurses so that Army hospitals would not have to deal with the language barriers. Among them was Second Lieutenant Carmen Dumler, who became one of the first Puerto Rican female military officers.

The 149th Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) Post Headquarters Company was the first WAAC Company to go overseas, setting sail from New York Harbour for Europe on January 1943. The unit arrived in Northern Africa on January 27, 1943 and rendered overseas duties in Algiers within General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s theatre headquarters. Tech4 Carmen Contreras-Bozak, a member of this unit, was the first Hispanic to serve in the U.S. Women’s Army Corps as an interpreter and in numerous administrative positions.

Lieutenant Maria Rodriguez Denton (U.S. Navy), born in Guanica, Puerto Rico, was the first known woman of Puerto Rican descent who became an officer in the United States Navy as member of the WAVES. It was Lt. Denton who forwarded the news (through channels) to President Harry S. Truman that the war had ended.

In 1944, the regiment was sent to North Africa, arriving at Casablanca, where they underwent further training. By April 29, 1944, the Regiment had landed in Italy and moved on to Corsica. On September 22, 1944, the 65th Infantry landed in France and was committed to action on the Maritime Alps at Peira Cava. There were 47 battle casualties with Sergeant Angel Martinez, from the town of Sabana Grande, being the first Puerto Rican to be killed in action from the 65th Infantry. On April 20, the 65th overran a sub-camp of the Flossenburg Concentration Camp. On March 18, 1945, the regiment was sent to the District of Mannheim and assigned to military occupation duties. In all, the 65th Infantry participated in the battles of Naples-Fogis, Rome-Arno, central Europe and of the Rhineland. On October 27, 1945, the regiment sailed from France, arriving at Puerto Rico on November 9, 1945. The regiment suffered a total of 23 soldiers killed in action. Other Puerto Ricans who played an important role during the war were Admiral Horacio Rivero, who was to become the highest ranking Hispanic in the history of the U.S. Navy, provided artillery cover for the Marines landing on Guadalcanal, Marshall Islands, and Okinawa. Lieutenant General Pedro del Valle, the first Hispanic Marine Corps general, who played a key role in the Guadalcanal Campaign and the Battle of Guam, became the Commanding General of the First Marine Division. Del Valle played an instrumental role in the defeat of the Japanese forces in Okinawa and was in charge of the reorganization of Okinawa.

    Revolt against the United States

During the mid-1940s, various pro-independence groups, such as the Puerto Rican Independence Party, which believed in gaining the island’s independence through the electoral process, and the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party, which believed in the concept of armed revolution, existed in Puerto Rico. On October 30, 1950 the nationalists, under the leadership of Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos staged uprisings in the towns of Ponce, Mayagüez, Naranjito, Arecibo, Utuado, San Juan and Jayuya.

Nationalist leader Blanca Canales led the armed nationalists into the town and attacked the police station. A small battle with the police occurred; one officer was killed and three others were wounded before the rest dropped their weapons and surrendered. The nationalists cut the telephone lines and burned the post office. Canales led the group into the town square where the illegal light blue version of the Puerto Rican Flag was raised. In the town square, Canales gave a speech and declared Puerto Rico a free Republic. The town was held by the nationalists for three days.

The United States declared martial law in Puerto Rico and sent the Puerto Rico National Guard to attack Jayuya. The town was attacked by U.S. bomber planes and ground artillery. Even though part of the town was destroyed, news of this military action was prevented from spreading outside of Puerto Rico. It was called an incident between Puerto Ricans. The top leaders of the nationalist party, including Albizu Campos and Blanca Canales, were arrested and sent to jail to serve long prison terms.

Griselio Torresola, Albizu Campos’s boyguard, was in the United States at the time of the Jayuya Uprising. Together with fellow nationalist Oscar Collazo, he decided to assassinate President Harry S. Truman. On November 1, 1950, they attacked the Blair House where Torresola and a policeman, Leslie Coffelt, lost their lives. Oscar Collazo was arrested and sentenced to death. His sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment by President Truman and he eventually received a presidential pardon.

    Cold War (1947-1991)

After World War II a geopolitical, ideological, and economic struggle emerged between the United States and the Soviet Union which included their respective allies. This struggle was popularly named the Cold War because open hostilities never occurred between the main parties involved. The so-called “war” involved a nuclear and conventional weapons arms race, networks of military alliances, economic warfare and trade embargos, propaganda, espionage, and proxy wars. The Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 was the most important direct confrontation. The Korean and Vietnam War were among the major civil wars polarized along Cold War lines.

    The USS Cochino incident

The USS Cochino (SS-345), was a Gato-class submarine under the command of Rafael Celestino Benitez. On August 12, 1949, the Cochino, along with the USS Tusk, departed from the harbour of Portsmouth, England. Both diesel submarines were supposed to be on a cold-water training mission, however, according to “Blind Man’s Bluff: The Untold Story of American Submarine Espionage,” the submarines were part of an American intelligence operation. They had snorkels that allowed them to spend long periods underwater, largely invisible to an enemy, and they carried electronic gear designed to detect far-off radio signals. The mission of the Cochino and the Tusk was to eavesdrop on communications that revealed the testing of submarine-launched Soviet missiles that might soon carry nuclear warheads. Thus, making this the first American undersea spy missions of the cold war.

The mission was cut short when one the Cochino’s 4,000-pound batteries caught fire. Commander Benitez directed the firefighting, trying both to save the ship and his crew from the toxic gases. The crew members of the Tusk rescued all except one Cochino crew member and convinced Commander Benitez, who was the last man on the Cochino, to board the Tusk. The Cochino sank off the coast of Norway two minutes after Benitez’s departure. Benitez retired as a Rear Admiral from the Navy in 1957.

    The Korean War

Sixty-one thousand Puerto Ricans served in the Korean War, including 18,000 Puerto Ricans who enlisted in the continental United States. Puerto Ricans distinguished themselves as part of the 65th Infantry Division receiving many awards and recognitions; however, they were also involved in the largest court martial of the Korean War.

On August 26, 1950, the 65th Infantry departed from Puerto Rico and arrived in Pusan, Korea on September 23, 1950. It was during the long sea voyage that the 65th Infantry was nicknamed the “Borinqueneers”. The name is a combination of the words “Borinquen” (the Taíno name for Puerto Rico) and “Buccaneers”. The men of the 65th were the first infantrymen to meet the enemy on the battle fields of Korea. Among the hardships suffered by the Puerto Ricans was the lack of warm clothing during the cold, harsh winters. The enemy made many attempts to encircle the Regiment, but each time they failed because of the many casualties inflicted by the 65th. On December 1950, the U.S. Marines found themselves at the Chosin Reservoir area. In June 1951, The 65th was part of a task force which enabled the Marines to withdraw from the Hauack-on Reservoir. When the Marines were encircled by the Chinese Communist troops close to the Manchurian border, the 65th rushed to their defense. As a consequence, the Marines were able to return safely to their ships.

Among the battles and operations in which the 65th participated was the Operation “Killer” of January 1951, becoming the first Regiment to cross the Han River. On April 1951, the Regiment participated in the Uijonber Corridor drives and on June 1951, the 65th was the third Regiment to cross the Han Ton River. The 65th was the Regiment that took and held Cherwon and they were also instrumental in breaking the “Iron Triangle” of Hill 717 on July 1951. On November 1951, the Regiment fought off an attack by two Regimental size enemy units, with success. Colonel Juan Cesar Cordero Davila was named commander of 65th Infantry on February 8, 1952, thus becoming one of the highest ranking ethnic officers in the Army. On July 3, 1952, the Regiment defended the MLR for 47 days and saw action at Cognac, King and Queen with successful attacks on Chinese positions. On October the Regiment also saw action in the Cherwon Sector and on Iron Horse, Hill 391, whose lower part was called “Jackson Heights”. On September 1952, the 65th Infantry was holding on to a hill known as “Outpost Kelly”. Chinese Communist forces that had joined the North Koreans overran the hill in what became known as the Battle for Outpost Kelly. Twice the 65th Regiment was overwhelmed by Chinese artillery and driven off.

In June 1953, the 2nd Battalion conducted a series of successful raids on Hill 412 and in November, the Regiment successfully counterattacked enemy units in the Numsong Valley and held their positions until the truce signing between all parts involved.

    Mass court-martial and post-war recognitions

Col. Cordero Davila was relieved of his command by Col. Chester B. DeGavre, a West Point graduate and a “continental” officer from the mainland United States and the officer staff of the 65th was replaced with non-Hispanic officers. DeGavre ordered that the unit stop calling itself the Borinqueneers, cut their special rations of rice and beans, ordered the men to shave off their mustaches and had ome of them wear signs that read “I am a coward”. It is believed that as a result of this humiliation, combat exhuastion, and the language barrier where factors that influenced some of the men of Company L of the 65th in their refusal to continue to fight.

In December 1954, 162 Puerto Ricans of the 65th Infantry were arrested, 95 were court martialed, and 91 were found guilty and sentenced to prison terms ranging from 1 to 18 years of hard labor. It was the largest mass court martial of the Korean War. The Secretary of the Army Robert Stevens moved quickly to remit the sentences and granted clemency and pardons to all those involved. Though the men who were court martialed were pardoned, there is currently a campaign for a formal exoneration.

An Army report released in 2001 blamed the breakdown of the 65th on the following factors: a shortage of officers and noncommissioned officers, a rotation policy that removed combat-experienced leaders and soldiers, tactics that led to high casualties, an ammunition shortage, communication problems between largely white, English-speaking officers and Spanish-speaking Puerto Rican enlisted men, and declining morale. The report also found bias in the prosecution of the Puerto Ricans, citing instances of continental soldiers who were not charged after refusing to fight in similar circumstances, before and after Jackson Heights.

The 65th Infantry was credited with battle participation in nine campaigns. Among the distinctions awarded to the members of the 65th were 10 Distinguished Service Cross, 256 Silver Star Medals and 595 Bronze Star Medals. According to “El Nuevo Día Newspaper, 30 May 2004” a total of 756 Puerto Ricans lost their lives in Korea, from all four branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. More then half of these were from the 65th Infantry (This is without including non-Puerto Ricans). The 65th Infantry returned to Puerto Rico and was deactivated in 1956. However, Brig. General Juan Cordero, Puerto Rico’s Adjutant General, persuaded the Department of the Army to transfer the 65th Infantry from the regular Army to the Puerto Rican National Guard. This was the only unit ever transferred from active component Army to the Army Guard.

Among the Puerto Ricans from the regiment who distinguished themselves are:Brigadier General Antonio Rodriguez Balinas (awarded two Silver Stars), Colonel Carlos Betances Ramirez (only Puerto Rican officer to command an infantry batallion), Master Sergeant Pedro Rodriguez (awarded two Silver Stars), and Staff Sergeant Modesto Cartagena (the most decorated Hispanic in history). Other Puerto Ricans who distinguished themselves were: Private First Class Fernando Luis Garcia, who became the first Puerto Rican recipient of the Medal of Honour when he covered a grenade with his body, saving the lives of his fellow Marines, and Major General Salvador E. Felices who flew in 19 combat bombing missions over North Korea.

The Cuban Missile Crisis was a tense confrontation between the Soviet Union and the United States over the Soviet deployment of nuclear missiles in Cuba. On October 22, 1962, Admiral Horacio Rivero was the commander of the American fleet sent by President John F. Kennedy to set up a quarantine (blockade) of the Soviet ships. On October 28, Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev ordered the removal of the Soviet missiles in Cuba, and Kennedy ordered an end of the quarantine of Cuba on November 20, bringing an end to the crisis. Admiral Rivero later served as U.S. Ambassador to Spain (1972–75).

During the Vietnam War, an estimated 48,000 Puerto Ricans served in the four branches of the armed forces. Of the 345 Puerto Ricans who died in combat, 17 were Missing in Action (MIA), and of these, PFC. Humberto Acosta-Rosario is the only one whose body has never been recovered and is currently still listed as MIA. Four Puerto Ricans—Spc4 Hector Santiago-Colon, Captain Euripedes Rubio, PFC Carlos Lozada and Captain Humbert Roque Versace—were awarded the Medal of Honour, the highest United States military decoration. Other Puerto Ricans who served in Vietnam and had distinguished military careers include: Major General Salvador E. Felices, Rear Admiral Diego E. Hernandez, Colonel Hector Andres Negroni and Brigadier General Ruben A. Cubero who in 1991 became the first person of Hispanic heritage to be named Dean of Faculty of the United States Air Force Academy.

Two Puerto Ricans who served in Vietnam currently hold positions in the Administration of President George W. Bush. They are Dr. Richard Carmona, a former Green Beret who was awarded two Purple Heart Medals and was appointed Surgeon General in March 2002, and Major General William A. Navas Jr., who was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and was named Assistant Secretary of the Navy in June 6, 2001.

    Operation El Dorado Canyon

On April 14, 1986, in response to acts of terrorism sponsored by Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi—in particular, the Berlin disco bombing of April 6—and against the backdrop of heightened tension and clashes between the Libyan and U.S. Navies over Libya’s disputed territorial water claims in the Gulf of Sidra, the United States launched a surprise attack on key facilities in Tripoli and other parts of Libya. The attack was code-named Operation El Dorado Canyon.

With the acquiescence of the British government, 24 U.S. Air Force F-111F fighter-bombers took off from U.S. air bases in England. Attacking in the pre-dawn hours of April 15, their main objectives were 22 airfields, terrorist training camps, and other military installations. Captain Fernando L. Ribas-Dominicci was one of the pilots who participated in the Libyan air raid. His F-111 was shot down over the disputed Gulf of Sidra off the Libyan coast. Ribas-Dominicci and his weapons systems officer, Captain Paul F. Lorence, were the only U.S. casualties. Al-Qaddafi, who was also personally targeted, escaped harm, but his daughter was killed.

Four Puerto Ricans lost their lives, including Captain Manuel Rivera of the Marine Corps, a Puerto Rican from the South Bronx, who on January 22, 1991 became the first soldier to be killed in Operation Desert Shield. Rivera was killed during a support mission over the Persian Gulf. On January 30, 1991, the U.S. House of Representatives paid tribute to Rivera.

Operation Restore Hope was an American military operation with the support of the United Nations that was formed to deliver humanitarian aid and restore order to the African nation of Somalia, which was suffering from a severe famine, anarchy, and domination by a number of warlords following the collapse of Siad Barre’s Marxist government and the outbreak of the Somalian Civil War. On January 30, 1993, Private First Class Domingo Arroyo Jr., a Marine from Puerto Rico, became the first of the 44 American soldiers killed during the operation. He was ambushed in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, by Somali warlords.

But instead of building a wall to keep us out of USA, (as he said in these days that we Puerto Ricans are the worst Mexicans! and yes we are the worst Mexicans since we are not Mexicans) with giving us the independence will suffice to keep us busy building our contract and us cheaper than the darn wall. Donald Trump Statement on Puerto Rico
    Donald Trump
Presidential Candidate Donald Trump made a statement on Puerto Rico’s status recently:

There are 3.7 million American citizens living in Puerto Rico. As citizens, they should be entitled to determine for themselves their political status. I am firmly committed to the process where Puerto Ricans might resolve their status according to Constitutional and Congressional protocols. I believe the people of Puerto Rico deserve a process of status self-determination that gives them a fair and unambiguous choice on this matter. As president I will do my part to insure that Congress follows the Constitution. The will of the Puerto Rican people in any status referendum should be considered as Congress follows through on any desired change in status for Puerto Rico, including statehood.

In other words, like many in Washington, Trump is saying that Puerto Rico should get to choose which status the Island should have.

This sounds good, but for a couple of things.

First, Puerto Rico already chose statehood. There is also another referendum coming up, one which was funded by the federal government and which should take place in 2016.

So a statement favoring a process that lets Puerto Rico choose their status, that Congress should follow the Constitution, and that the results of status votes should be considered really just states the obvious. This statement does not say, “If the people vote again for statehood, as President I will call on Congress to pass a statehood admission act, and sign if it it is passed on terms that serve the U.S. national interest.”

61% of the people who chose a status opted for statehood in the 2012 referendum. This is a clear majority. An additional vote to confirm this result is planned. Presidential candidates should be ready to demand action on the part of Congress in response to the upcoming plebiscite. Mr. Trump is not known to be a fence-straddling politician so a statement like this one seems out of character. If he means a majority vote “should be considered” and that the future status options should “include statehood,” does that mean he would be noncomittal about continuing the status quo instead of actively supporting statehood?

Tell the candidate you support that you care about Puerto Rico’s status, and that you want a real answer on the question.

Actually, 52% of Puerto Ricans voted to NOT be part of the states… and only 45% voted for statehood, if you count the people who left it blank on the ballot. Let’s be accurate with the facts.

We respectfully disagree. Leaving a question blank doesn’t constitute a vote. But if we look at the actual numbers, we see that 959,136 people voted against the current territorial status on the first question (53.99%) and 817,241 voted for it, so the territorial status lost. 824,238 (61.10%) voted for statehood on the second question. There were 480,916 voters who did not answer the second question. Even if we imagine that all the people who left the second question blank were voting for Enhanced Commonwealth (and there is no evidence for this), statehood is still the majority position. If we pretend that the second question was statehood yes or no and add the blank votes, the independence votes, and the associated state votes together to get a majority anti-statehood position — well, that’s not what was on the ballot and not what people voted for. The upcoming federally sponsored referendum might be an up or down statehood vote, and then we’d be able to say with confidence how many voted against statehood. For 2012, all we can really say is that the majority voted for statehood among the possible status options in question 2.

We Puerto Ricans have to get this right once and for all.
We have to be hot or cold but “not” in between.
If you wish to be with God and the Devil at same time definitively you will be puked!

In our present times Status_Quo has no place in US politics. Neither in Congress. You will be disrespected!
You will get no were!. For the last 60+ years we have not defined our political status.
The situation with congress has been good enough to let us burn time and efforts and to get this far.
Don’t waste time or effort positioning too get puked. It will be over. Looks like sooner than later.
    Spain mishandled us for 400+years.
There was never significant progress as individuals due to the fact that they didn’t gave us relevant oportunity.
and finally ? … they didn’t fight for us and gave us away! Yes. Look at the Paris Treaty. We were treated as POSh.
We are US citizens or independent 100% until we get it right. Dummy. It is up to us and not the Congress.
The congress is right. Think about it. As a Country the politics are more important that all the wars put together.
Remember we are are not in the heavens. Expect this to be no better than past history until We decide what to do.

If Puerto Ricans decide not to join the Union then it should go independent, but don’t blame America after the Socialist take over and ruin the Island like they did in Cuba, Venezuela and Peru. I am ok with the Island going idependent but remember like the Philippines and Cuba anyone born after the independence will not be an American Citizen and it is sure a whole lot farther from Puerto Rico to the USA than Cuba. We are blessed to be part of the greatest Nation in the world not perfect but the best. 51st State will guarantee that we remain a free people able to move and live in any State of the Union of our choice. Independence will give us a seat in the most corrupt organization in the world the UN. Puerto Rico will be a voiceless Nation in that Corruptocrat organization. I wish them good Luck with that..

  90. There is no such thing as a strategic US base left in Puerto Rico. At different times in the 20th century, the U.S. had about 25 military or naval installations in Puerto Rico, some very small ones,[2] as well as large installations. The largest of these installations were the former Roosevelt Roads Naval Station in Ceiba, the Roosevelt Roads Naval Station, and the Atlantic Fleet Weapons Training Facility (AFWTF) on Vieques (all now closed), the National Guard training facility at Camp Santiago in Salinas, Fort Allen in Juana Diaz, the Army’s Fort Buchanan in San Juan, the former U.S. Air Force Ramey Air Force Base in Aguadilla, and the Puerto Rico Air National Guard at Muñiz Air Force base in San Juan.[3]

The former U.S. Navy facilities at Roosevelt Roads, Vieques, and Sabana Seca have been deactivated and partially turned over to the local government. Other than U.S. Coast Guard and Puerto Rico National Guard facilities, there are only two remaining military installations in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Army’s small Ft. Buchanan (supporting local veterans and reserve units) and the PRANG(Puerto Rico Air National Guard) Muñiz Air Base (the C-130 Fleet). In recent years, the U.S. Congress has considered their deactivations, but these have been opposed by diverse public and private entities in Puerto Rico – such as retired military who rely on Ft. Buchanan for the services available there.

There is no Panama Canal to strategically protect Canal has been turned over to Panama. Daily US flights to Cuba will start this fall….CONGRESS HAS ACTUALLY WANTED TO DEACTIVATE WHAT IS LEFT but some public and private entities in PUERTO RICO have objected. Do some research before you start commenting on things…there is no STRATEGIC value to bases in PUERTO RICO. Even in this country the US will reduce the military by 300,000 personnel in the near future. Rapid deployment teams are the new thing.

Let’s make one thing clear, Puerto Ricans didn’t create the problems on the island, it was the super rich like Trump that came in, made promises, stole the land with the help of the US Government, started building golf courses and then stopped the work and caused unemployment to rise. Outsiders that forced us to take products we didn’t need, bought out the sugar plantations then closed them so they could import cheaper sugar from other countries. Before you pay attention to the comments of an idiot that is uneducated in congressional protocols, learn how the system works. Inform yourself of the process of citizenship revocation and what it would take for one President to be able to revoke 8,000,000 + citizenships, trust me, it’s as impossible to attain as Trump being able to become a decent person. No Congress will vote to revoke citizenship from the amount of voters Puertorricans represent in this country, it’s not good politics and it’s an act no government will want to be involved in being a part of. Be realistic and inform yourself before taking stupid comments to heart, the impact of a statement should be derived from the source it proceeds and Trump is not a credible source nor a respected one. People started making up such unbelievable crap, that people started assuming that the real things he did were made up as well. A statement like this would be the lead story and on the front page of every media outlet if it were true.

The key to defeating Trump is to belittle him based upon his actual statements and actions, not violent protests based upon lies and half-truths.

Puerto Rican’s has served in the US Armed Forces in the defense of their nation and in return Puertorican’s are exploited by paying more Island import and export taxes, federal taxes, etc. We don’t need the USA as the USA needed us and now wants to turn their back on the Island. We can be an independent Island with the benefits of tourism and be able to take part of the fair trade. We are a proud race and that’s what the citizens of the USA lack. “Trump” interest is power with the Presidency, he does not cares about the USA; he will use his position to sell the USA and make profit for his interest! But Congress is the one to blame if Congress the Senate follow the Presidents demands. There goes the USA. The world is watching at United States politics and are laughing. “Trump” cannot be elected President he is not qualified!

My relative was one of them. There is so much garbage said about him. The establishment is spending millions to bring this man down. Why? Because he is not one of them. Do you think for one minute i would vote for a racist. He is not racist. He is a man who cares for this country. He wants to bring jobs and protect this country iis there something wrong with that? Are you doing better than seven years ago? I am not. Keep voting for more taxes, more welfare , more drugs freedom, less freedom , they treat you like naive children. They want to control you. They want power over you by promising free stuff .Nothing is free. Someone is paying for it and its you the people that work hard that are paying for it.Keep believing that this country is doing better. All the good jobs are leaving this country and the other jobs that are staying are taken from people who are not American citizens. Their countries have laws that you cannot work there or own land. Why can we protect ourselves. What is wrong with Americans first in America? Every country put their citizens first why not us? Trump 2016

Some of the things Trump says are taken out of context [like the Mexican illegals being all thieves and rapists] but it can be said by definition that any who come illegally are certainly criminals. I have not lived in Mexico but have traveled there and from what I see of drivers in PR, the Mexicans are probably more law abiding. As for hard working, If the cargo/shipping docs here were closed for a week, the Island would starve because the proud Caballeros here are Americanos, simply too good to do any manual labor [which they gladly leave that to illegal Dominicans].
As for citizenship, I wish all the hotheaded Ricans who like to wake the dead in the middle of the night with their obnoxious noise, while racing through parking lots and running over old ladies, ignoring laws [and lawful debts] would pack up and move to Florida, where they can fight for turf with their “Latino” bros at the Copa Cabana. Then we will see who the real Latin Kings are. But be sure to leave the old ones behind, since they still remember a bit of manners, probably taught them by Spanish monks, many years ago, and yes the gringos who then stole the land from them, fair and square.
As far as independence talk goes, PR would soon fall into anarchy [it’s almost there now] and probably civil war so, please do not bite the U.S. hand that may feed you [or at least all the unwed mothers with a litter of Americano ninos].

I’m Puerto Rican, latinoamerican. I’m basically from your same race, because, you above all should know that America is not only the United States of America. They are just %10 percent, latinoamericans, the rest %90. America’s body is made of latinoamericans, not the United States. The United States has reached its point of arrogance, and ignorance. We are tired of racism, we are tired of threats. Latino-America is number 1, not the United States. You people from the United States are good for nothing. That arrogance will come to an end. One way, or another.

  184. Hey guys I’m half Puerto Rican, born and raised in NYC.

Look guys, I’m no Trump fan. In fact I do hate him. But the claims that Trump wants to deport Puerto Ricans is utter bullshit. Trump is a moron pure and simple but even he knows that to say such a thing is suicidal to his chances for the presidency. He can get away with bashing Mexicans because there are enough racist assholes in this country who hate Mexicans but Puerto Ricans really pose no direct threat to conservative assholes like Trump. I am of the opinion an even greater bias exists permitting hatred towards Mexicans than exists towards Puerto Ricans, of all Hispanics I think Mexicans are the ones who more often than not are targeted for discrimination; I’ve been on websites where people have written ‘I’m not racist I just hate Mexicans’.

There is no logical reason supporting that Puerto Ricans would ever come into Trump’s crosshairs. The only website I have found any results of Trump having said this are political satire sites so with that being said I must implore two things of you guys; one: please stop blowing this satirical news story out of proportion because in my opinion it actually makes us Puerto Ricans look bad, makes us look ill informed at best and kind of like complete idiots looking to jump on the bandwagon to be the next big oppressed race in the nation at worst. We shouldn’t aspire to that. We shouldn’t have to take printed lies and spread them about Trump he gives more than enough material for us to use against him. Second: stop paying him any attention at all. In doing so you are giving him power. Good press, bad press is still press to him he’s not some struggling senator out of some Midwest state struggling to finance his campaign. He’s got the wealth and resources to do it all on his own, he’s like a fire, feeding him wood and feeding him kerosene will make him burn brighter and higher, cut off all oxygen and he will go out. Stop talking about him. Period. He’ll go away.

Amendments can be proposed by Congress or by constitutional convention. Congress then decides how to ratify the amendment if approved by Congress or convention. The amendment can either be ratified by three-fourths of state legislatures or by conventions in three-fourths of the states. Some parts of the procedures for proposing and ratifying amendments are well established in federal and state laws, but others, such as the constitutional convention, has never been successfully used. 204. I don’t believe Trump’s comment about deporting Puerto Ricans was from a credible source. If it were true it would have spread like wildfire by now throughout major news stations. Seriously, the comment about deporting children who’s parents are undocumented. Puerto Rico is a common wealth there by making you a citizen. If you are a citizen how do you not have documentations? This will never happen. With 54 million Hispanics in the U.S. he won’t become president. I don’t care by what percentage his presidential approvals are.

One thing I cannot stand is the negative stigma and stereotype against us Hispanics. We are drug dealers or cleaning ladies. Yes, as the the minority immigrating from another country with a lack of education we get the basic jobs but none the less we are hard workers! We are contributing to society and we are just as important as the majority! We have Puerto Ricans working in all fields. How can we forget the Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor? We have Puerto Rican lawyers, doctors, police men, teachers, and the list goes on …I’m Puerto Rican and Dominican. Born in PR and raised in NY. Despite the stereotypes I’m a medical school student. I will be a doctor one day, saving the lives of the people in this country!
So this stereotype that we are lazy, drug dealing thieves needs to stop. We are important citizens of this country too. Making an impactful contribution to society as well.

Other politicians know that he is trying to sway the votes to Hilary Clinton and heavenly step back at the right time. He has nothing to lose and will help the Clintons as they helped him in the past.

Trump will only become more famous as a brand and the Clinton more powerful.

My parents are Nicaraguan and I am first generation American born and now residing in England with an English daughter…I also have a daughter who has Cuban and Puerto Rican roots that was born in the USA. We are Americans! My parents were legal but status means nothing to me…we are all humans!!! JEEEZ!. There is so much xenophobia going on here…like someone above said…it is merely bringing to light the racial barriers that have always been there to the surface.

This man has to have serious Narcissistic and Sociopathic tendencies. This can’t be acceptable..what he is promoting is along the lines of HItler and people of lower intelligence are following his lead and surely people at the top who ofcourse have financial interests and who he lives to please. What they don’t know is that they need these people they are marginalizing to do the jobs at the bottom of the chain…which entitled lazy Americans won’t do..don’t worry it will back fire.

What scared me though…..is that what happened in England during this last election may happen in America. The Conservatives won the election by only 37%….the conservative supporters, much like the Republicans and the Democrats, vote and the rest of the country twiddles their thumbs. So when everyone went out to vote…probably one of the largest turnouts the UK has ever had……they concentrated on the smaller parties…Green Party, Ukip (the actual devils party for the bigoted types as much as the conservatives) Everybody voting for other parties…people were all over the place..When the results came out you would never believe how unhappy this country was and we have to look at them daily. It is a tragedy and we have to endure a very painful reality in our daily lives.

This is going to spark a major turnout to the polls but people need to get organized and target the liberal states to make sure that this disgusting man takes no power. Is there a worthy candidate out there? Even Hilary is a detached power-hungry player….the old boys institution I like to call it. Wow this is terrifying really. People start a campaign…use knowledge but people like this play dirty because they don’t see people as people…they see them as burdens that need to removed on the way up to the top and in this case, as tools in their strategy for that top position..YOu can’t be nice and human with someone who has these kinds of psychological disorders.

If we wish to live in peace we must treat each and everyone with respect and even if we don’t like somethings about them we must love them like a sibling. the immense greed that runs amok through out the world is our greatest flaw as a people. when a small fraction of the people control the resources and leave the remaining larger fraction to suffer so that they may collect an even larger share at some point the larger portion will come to their senses and realize they have the real control. All they need do is exercise it. Imagine what would happen if every worker planet wide went on strike. 231. This is really funny and totally BS!

Puerto Rico, like Saipan (CMNI) and GUAM are US Territory nations; which are under the jurisdiction of the USA-legal statue in the 14th amendment of our US constitution. While FSM, Marshall Islands are countries in the Pacific having legal free associations with the US. Their people can freely come and work in the US–same as with the tiny Pacific Nations of American Samoa, Virgin Islands, and so forth. I have visited most if not all of these small countries when I was doing Grass Roots ITF tennis programs in the North and South Pacific. All of these tiny Nations are under the jurisdiction of the US. They are using US dollars as their currencies, the US has its own immigration people servicing any people coming in and going out of these tiny nations, for and in behalf of the USA. Trump is not that stupid as the narrow minded people think–that just jump into any issues, without going into the minimum basic info-research to give little credibility of their made-up narratives.

NO USA PRESIDENT, can change the status of Puerto Rico without the approval of at least 2/3 members of the US congress. Keep in mind that the commonwealth status of Puerto Rico, was not created by any US President’s Executive Order but was created through the Treaty of Paris. Currently, Puerto Rico is presenting their preference to become one of the States of the US. But our US congress did not approve their request, so they still under the Territory of the US. ALL babies born from Puerto Rican parents are automatically become US citizens just like babies born from Guamenian parents.

14th amendment in our US Constitution that deals about Birth Right US Citizenship is a very complicated piece of constitutional opinion that divide the most intellectual constitutionalist people in the US–and which is being abused by mostly rich Chinese syndicate. They brought Chinese nationals to Marshall Islands, and other tiny Island Nations in the Pacific so they can deliver their babies there and become the citizen of that countries. Currently, they are targeting the city of New York wherein they will collect big amount of money so pregnant women from China will stay in New York, deliver their babies and become US citizen anchor babies. In reality, their anchor babies should not become US citizen as they are not legal residents of the US–if 14th amendment is to be strictly followed. But because both Republicans and Democrats needs new more US citizens to support their respective party’s interest, they twisted each and every wording of the constitution, so both can get what they want.

14th amendment clause “Under the Legal Jurisdiction of the US” really identify babies born from parents who are under the legal jurisdiction of the US. Babies born in the US from respective foreign embassy workers, ambassadors and others could not get birth-right US citizenship since they are under legal jurisdiction of their respective countries. Ask our Philippine Embassy people about this so you will be educated.

Now for the babies born in the US from un-documented Illegal Aliens, they are absolutely not US citizens as their parents are not under the legal jurisdiction of the US. Since they entered in the US Illegally and not documented, they are legally under the jurisdiction of their country of origin. Trump’s focus is not on legal immigrants–as legal immigrants supports Trump’s position. What he is trying to solve is the ILLEGAL Aliens problem in the US, the reason why his position is being debated by constitutional experts, and supported by considerable groups of people in the US.

Study this current case in Texas. A baby was born by un-documented parents. The parents want their newly born baby to get US passport. This is permitted under current status. But, the local Texas authority could not complete the process as the parents could not present any valid ID to the local authority to validate their parental claim to the baby. This is now on hold under legal proceedings until the parents can show legal documents/ID as required.

My friendly advise to all is: KEEP DISTANCE from AL SHARPTON. I really hope you will not become one of his believers.

It’s easy to forget that at least 80% of this country lies in the “Bible Belt.” This is that giant swath of red that we see every four years that only comes out to vote for the whitest candidate or against the latest freedom or global warming initiative in the name of “Jesus.”

This mass of primarily Faux News consumers have been using every possible cover (including calling the people they are being racist against racist; you know, reverse phsychology) to obfuscate the fact that they are nothing but racists, bigots, mysogenists, douchebags, etc. Now that Trump has entered the fray, they feel that this cover is no longer necessary. We were simply pretending they did not exist. They were always right there, in front of our face. Now even Faux News has no idea what to do with the monster they raised; it will no longer take direction from them.

Faux, in their defense, didn’t create the monster. They just molded it. They knew how stupid, gullible, and easily influenced it was. They helped bring it out of the shadows and gave it the validity it needed. Roger Ailes, using the toolset designed and built by Goebbels, has no idea what to do now that his flock has found their leader. It’s not Jeb Bush, they cry. It’s not Ted Cruz, they lament. Not Santorum, or even Huckabee. Not any of the hand picked meat puppets they put before us. It had to be Trump. And as angry as I am about his comments, I honestly believe that this is a blessing in disguise. This is exactly what we need to help tear down this wall of hate that is suffocating this country. You cannot take down a wall unless you know it exists. Trump has brought that motherfucker out of the shadows. It’s time to strike it down.

He deserves to be enlightened with our presence. He did make the comments among others and we have to stop the racist pig. “Puerto Rico”).[1] On March 21, 1915, the first shots by the United States in World War I were fired by the Porto Rico Regiment of Infantry from El Morro Castle at a German ship in San Juan Bay.[2] U.S. Citizenship was imposed upon Puerto Ricans as a result of the 1917 Jones–Shafroth Act
Upon the outbreak of World War I, the U.S. Congress approved the Jones–Shafroth Act, which imposed United States citizenship (the Puerto Rican House of Delegates rejected US citizenship)[2] with limitations upon Puerto Ricans and made them eligible for the military draft. As citizens of the United States, Puerto Ricans have participated in every major United States military engagement from World War I onward. During World War II, Puerto Ricans participated in the Pacific and Atlantic theaters, not only as combatants, but also as commanders. It was during this conflict that Puerto Rican nurses were allowed to participate as members of the WAACs. The members of Puerto Rico’s 65th Infantry Regiment distinguished themselves in combat during the Korean War and were honored with the Congressional Gold Medal.[3] During the Vietnam War five Puerto Ricans were awarded the Medal of Honor, the highest military honor in the United States. Presently Puerto Ricans continue to serve in the military of the United States. The following is brief history of the military events in which Puerto Ricans have participated.

You just can’t walk into the presidency and declare that you will take the citizenship of any race. You cannot send every immigrant back to their country just because you don’t like them. All that has to go thru a process and the president cannot make decisions just because he is president. Congress makes all the decisions and they are not going to put this nation at risk just because a jackass wants to remove every single Hispanic and Latin Americans out of this nation. Guess what MORON you need us if you want to win the Presidency you IDIOT. Don’t forget the majority of votes comes from minorities. We are the back bone of this nation. No one works harder as we do to move forward. No one. So if Donald Trump wants all the immigrants out of United States, wouldn’t he be getting a ticket to get the hell out too? After all he is also an immigrant. ONLY A DUMB ASS WOULD SPEAK WITHOUT RECONGITION. Self examine before you speak. No one can spit up it will always land on your face.

Statements like these are fear mongering tactics by the likes of Univision and other Latin Americans who want all of their families / friends to be legallized. Puerto Ricans are not immigrants. They are U.S. citizens by birth just like any other U.S. citizen. They gained the right to citizenship in 1917. How did they pay for it? Well, what was going on around 1917? WWI! That’s right… many of them were called to military duty. People need to get informed. I was approached by a neighbor who was shocked that I was a conservative latino man. He said did you know that Republicans are trying to prevent Puerto Ricans from voting for the president of U.S. Well, Puerto Ricans while on the island have never been able to vote for the President of the U.S. However, if they live on the mainland they can vote for the president of their choice. And please do not misunderstand me. I do not agree with everything that Trump says. However, I dislike when people spread misinformation because they disagree with what that person says.

The way to beat Trump and these bigots is to VOTE when the general election comes around. Too many minority voters siton their lazy aXXes and don’t go to the polls to vote. Look what happened in the congressional elections in 2014. You can bet the bigots don’t stay home. They vote. Fortunately today there are enough Blacks, Latinos, Asians, etc. to make a difference if they would only get out and vote.

Puerto Rico is not a third world country, just like Hispanics from any country have to learn English because they now live in the U.S., then so should Americans learn Spanish when living in a country where the language is Spanish. That there is discrimination, of course there is discrimination in the entire world, we as the human race refuse to accept each other’s differences. Everyone thinks their culture is better than the next; to single out one culture from the next is pitiful. I was born in Puerto Rico and raised in New York City from the age of one, I consider myself American, but I am Puerto Rican. I speak both languages fluently because I chose to be well spoken no matter where I live. God intended us to love each other not fight and kill each other because of where you were born or the color of your skin. In reality our country was created by immigrants who came here from all parts of the world, that’s why it is called the United States. Learn the language in the country you live in and things will be easier.

But no job no money only lived off of less than $400 a mt in foodstamp the time i lived here. My daugther is a bottomless pit and $400 is not enough for a family to live off of. And no help with anything even with their programs to “help the needy” how you going to choose a drug adict over a family even churches have denied a 7 yr old girl food over a drug user. We as Americans on this island are treated like crap. Here again Im an American treated like crap by my wife her family and other people here as well. Trying to get home and forced to stay due to no job. But everyone here has iphone, tablets, cars, ect…. After 3 yr a friend for 8 mts gave me a truck and hes from the states too and knows the opression we go thru and is trying to help. I thank him every day. But other people lets not get started on them. And a female friend from the island who travels back n forth is the only other friend whos helped me. You want Trump out i can agree with that. If you live in the states it only takes a few minutes to discover that North Americans are for the most part intolerant of anyone that does not conform to the culture. That means language, skin color, nationalist ideals etc. If you live in Puerto Rico and know your history (which most Puerto Rican do not) you can quickly notice the ongoing persecution of the United State towards the Puerto Rican population. Puerto Rico seems to have the abused wife syndrome. The more the wife is abuse the more the wife defense the husband. The wife will not leave her husband because she is afraid. The syndrome can be applied to the Puerto Rican population. The Puerto Rican population needs to wake up.

  370. While dismissing on the ass-hattedness of Trump is fast becoming de rigeur, we should see an opportunity here to carry the discussion to a higher level. We all (Trump included) know that Puertoricans are US citizens. On the outside chance he is elected POTUS, only a series of Acts of Congress could change that (clarifying Puerto Rico´s status as de facto colony, the restatement of US citizenship as an imposition linked to the such status, etc.). Thus a wonderful chance has opened up here to point out the internationally recognized unfairness of the US´hold on PR and therefore, it should, by such various Acts of Congress, immediately declare PR´s position to be akin to the French and British colonies prior to their independence pending suitable arrangements regarding voting eligibility and conduct of an Independence referendum. We win. It is essential in this time when PR´s troubles are in the news (and demagogic politicians use that for their own xenophobic ends) that we take the high ground and demand full and sovereign freedom to be our own country.

  372. Puerto Rican citizenship if born in Puerto Rico is by statue or The Jones Act of 1917 and this act can be revoked by congress. It’s not likely to happen. American Citizenship for those born in the United States can never be revoked because your citizenship is protected under the constitution. That is why all political parties in Puerto Rico state that we have a second rate citizenship and the only way is for Puerto Rico to become a state. American citizenship has always been a topic debated in Puerto Rico. All acts and statues (laws) can be revised and revoked.

  373. Donald Trump should read Nelson Denis’s extraordinary history of Puerto Rico and her people. In fact, it should be mandatory reading for anyone who fails to understand the contributions Puerto Ricans have made to our society. All nations can look with shame upon some in their midst, but the forbearance of the people of Puerto Rico who were virtually enslaved by the plantation owners living in luxury in the United States is well documented. The War Against All Puerto Ricans lays out the facts with complete scholarly exactness and painstaking research. Read this book! If you do not shed tears or feel remorse, at least ask yourself how could this have happened in the land of the free. Trump is of the same school that virtually enslaved Puerto Ricans for generations, and now he wants to rid America or them? What citizenry will he marginalize next?

Every library in every university, every town, and every school should have The War Against All Puerto Ricans by Nelson Antonio Denis on its shelves. It is history written as it should be, simply the facts. Denis has a point of view but in his text, “the truth speaks for itself.”

  374. Ignorance is bliss, this Mussolini clown is a Stalin type Wall Builder wanna be. Totally Impudent in any attempt to revoke anything much less the citizenship of the Boricua. The only Immigrant here is Trump himself and we the indigenous people of this continent should revoke his Illegal citizenship and send him and his entire demand seed back to wherever they migrated from.

  375. Donald Trump is getting everyone worked up. Don’t you see this is just another attempt to gain publicity? We all know that he will never become president. Don’t give him so much credit. He’s ignorant.

  378. Reblogged this on It Is What It Is and commented:
“Donald Trump will never be president of the United States. But he is rapidly becoming our national therapist … a deep mirror into the American psyche … where angels and demons, and hidden resentments, have been festering for many years.”

Donald Trump is the perfect representative of the “Ugly American” …. this seems to be the lowest of the low! I’m sure more will follow!!

  379. slow down , your buying into his game . 1 he has to be Elected by the Electoral collage. 2 It takes a ACT OF CONGRESS to revoke the citizenship of any one and NOT the President . Sonia andThe Supremes would never up hold that. He is only feeding the democrats with more ammo to bring him and the other 16 down

  380. Looks like some folks need to brush up on Civics 101: Yes, the federal appeals judge is the child of Puerto Rican parents. But no, Puerto Ricans are not immigrants. They are U.S. citizens and have been since 1917.

  381. We had a saying, when I started work on my first job: “Be nice to the elevator boy; you may meet him on the way down.”
Trump better watch his mouth, because when the coming currency crisis hits, and the dollar isn’t worth bubkas, he may
have to move to Puerto Rico.

  383. Donald Trump also made the statement that
“He’s going to purchase the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico in order to resolve it’s debt crisis and rename it Puerto Trump”.
He is playing a dangerous game, he’s playing with race.
