1. Article IV, Section 3, Clause 3 of the CONFEDERATE CONSTITUTION!
   “The Confederate States may acquire new territory; and Congress shall have power to legislate and provide governments for the inhabitants of all territory belonging to the Confederate States, lying without the limits of the several Sates; and may permit them, at such times, and in such manner as it may by law provide, to form States to be admitted into the Confederacy. In all such territory the institution of negro slavery, as it now exists in the Confederate States, shall be recognized and protected be Congress and by the Territorial government; and the inhabitants of the several Confederate States and Territories shall have the right to take to such Territory any slaves lawfully held by them in any of the States or Territories of the Confederate States.”

2. But don’t you understand, that the Corporation called “The United States” does this same thing to every country they want to rob of its natural resources? TheN afterwards they establish a puppet government that spearheaded their remote control subjugation scheme. The difference with Puerto Rico is that it no longer has any natural resources worth mentioning except for 1……….the Island itself. The Island is seen by many elites as the perfect playground for them.
   This is the order in which they manipulate countries under their control, or completely take over.

   1.) They offer countries loans through the IMF (International Monetary Fund) with extortion interest rates that is impossible to ever repay.

   2.) Then once the country defaults, they come in with the false image that they are trying to help.

   3.) However, in reality they’re deconstructing the government structure that is set up to benefit the people, by establishing programs that enslave the public through debt measures.

   4.) Ultimately manipulating countries under their imperialistic subjugation.

   Once we become a state, we will never be able to break free except through war, because they will make sure that we are kept in our subservient place.

3. To Ephraimite1. I am totally aware of the points you present (I’ve been hearing these arguments for decades) and I agree with you for the most part. The economic system in Puerto Rico (based on their relationship with the U.S.) has been set up for exploitation and failure from the beginning…but that is not the point right now. Right now the financial crisis needs to be resolved…now is not the time to revisit reinventing the wheel. It is what it is. I am further of the opinion that immediately upon resolution, issues such as the Jones Act, greater economic autonomy, and political representation for Puerto Rico should be put on the table within the current political arrangement. Why? Because time and again the people of Puerto Rico have voted in multiple referendums to keep the status quo. Your arguments are wasted on me because I’m a mainland Puerto Rican who can’t vote in referendums, and wouldn’t even if I could because it’s up to the folks in the island to determine their own destiny.

4. To *_”Efraín”_* , you are sadly uninformed of the whole problem. The problems of Puerto Rico today are based on the control measures instituted by the Congress of the U.S., who have always only their own interests in mind when managing the Island of Puerto Rico’s restrictive laws. The brainwashed ideology that we can only succeed if we continue with U.S. Congressional control measures and delegation over our country of Puerto Rico has simply run its course. What needs to happen is the emergence of a true and unshakeable movement to finally become an Independent sovereign country able to control its own negotiations with foreign nations in order to develop into a stronger economical society unhindered by outside bureaucratic imperialistic consolations.

   There are so many ways that we can benefit from being liberated as a vassal state to the U.S.
   For 1, we would not have to increase prices on imports, that bizarrely enough, have to first be received and logged on the eastern shores of the U.S. before it can then make its way to its final destination of P.R. This is called the “Jones Act”, (aka the Cabotage Law) prohibiting Puerto Rico from developing its own shipping industry.
   Millions of dollars a year are lost to the U.S. because of this law that only benefits America.
   In this 21st Century, you would think with all this talk of “Spreading Democracy”, that it would translate into giving Puerto Rico its independence so it could self determine its own future, and not have its hands tied by outdated and archaic U.S. bureaucracies that hinder its own identity that doesn’t necessarily have to be tied to America.

   I myself would prefer my country of Puerto Rico to be sovereign and build stronger alliances with Central and South American countries, such as the “Union of South American Nations (UNASUR)”. Although the comprised countries are still in the developmental stages of unification, nevertheless, its goals are more in uniform with Puerto Rico’s than with Europeanized America.

   Although Puerto Rico has a drastically small export of natural resources, it can still become a political player with other Latin American Nations who’s ideology is more in line with its own. Puerto Rico has historically had strong political players that were anti-establishment (U.S.A.), and who even within the American cities that they inhabit, have made inroads of changes for the equality and general advancement for Spanish speaking residents as well as for minorities in general. Influential and militaristic in nature have always been part of Puerto Rican’s identity, even in the ancient days of the Spanish conquistadors throughout the Caribbean, and still represented today with its veterans who fight many unjust wars for the European hegemony.

   If we Puerto Ricans really want to be proud of who we really are……..then we need to control who we are and not have an outside Imperialistic power continue subjugating us through restrictive laws that are not for our national interests. We shouldn’t have to play lap dog to a repressive nations (America) control measures of our majesty. Our self respect is worth more than a mirror image of an American flag.

Carajo ya esta bueno de culparnos, las colonias no se gobiernan, las gobiernan los colonizadores, la mal llamada democracia que nos imponen es un gran embuste, pues un pendejo de juez federal en la Chardon puede anular cualquier desicion del pueblo. La culpa de lo que nos pasa es del que nos mantinen como colonia. Lo que somos es lo que ellos han creado para beneficio de ellos. Nos han metido en en una economia de consumo que solo los beneficia a ellos, tengo entendido que las ayudas que dan no pasan de 8,000 millones que van de regreso a la economia de ellos como un subcidio, mientras P R le compra a ellos mas de 73,000 millones, quien es el ganador. Es tiempo de que se larguen y nos indecnisen por el daño causado en los ultimos ciento diez y siete años de coloniaje. Usando gobernadores corruptos especialmente los mal llamados estadista, porque los rojos lo unico que saben es poner impuesto para que los azules se lo roben mientras nos mantienen metidos en una camisa de fuerza que no podemos o dejan safarnos del coloniaje. Asi cualquiera …

8. In the 1970s New York City found itself in a major fiscal crisis. They turned to the State who created the Municipal Assistance Corporation to oversee their finances. It worked! Leaving Puerto Rican pride aside for a minute, when a person is sick they turn to the best doctor they can find to treat their ailment; when a person is experiencing mental health issues he/she turns to a good psychiatrist/psychologist to assist in understanding and overcoming their condition. Why are we Puerto Ricans responding with a ‘knee jerk’ reaction to a Financial Control Board instead of asking intelligent and probing questions on what this proposal entails, what will be Puerto Rico’s role in the management and decision-making processes, what is the timeline and actions required to finally clear Puerto Rico out of its $100 billion debt? In my mind it doesn’t matter if the idea is put forward by a legislator from South Carolina or a purple alien from Mars as long as it is a good and workable idea with good prospects for success! Come on Puerto Rico! Grow up! The island is in dire financial straits and if the financial experts are available and willing to help why aren’t we engaged in intelligent interactions with them instead of immediately dismissing them with our pride and arrogance? If a Financial Control Board is what’s needed to assist Puerto Rico in successfully getting out of this mess then it should be seriously considered. New York City did it and look at it now!

10. En épocas pasadas la CIA y el FBI tomaron acciones determinantes que afectaron el presente de Puerto Rico. Hoy son las casas acreditadoras (los bonistas) quienes amenazan abiertamente y prácticamente dirigen el destino económico y político de la Isla. Siendo este el caso, si una junta de control financiero es lo que más beneficia a los bonistas, eso será lo que vendrá, a no ser que comencemos a reinventarnos ya.

12. Congressman Jeffrey D. Duncan you and Governor Hailey should just get married and move to West Virginia. Maybe there you to can live happily ever after and leave the Puerto Ricans alone. This is one sleeping Giant you don’t want to wake up. You have made a mockery of what happened in Charleston, and you are trying to use this for your own personal agenda. The confederate flag is part of our history. NO ONE made that young man do what he did, the Confederate flag didn’t have anything to do with his unstable mind. But yet you encourage your people to violate the federal law and BURN OUR OWN UNITED STATES FLAG. A group of ignorant men, white and black posed together as they burned our own flag. And yet you still do NOTHING to punish this act of treason. Too many of our own people who have served this country, have died trying to protect our freedom and our rights. FREEDOM AND RIGHTS THAT PLENTY OF PUERTO RICANS HAVE GIVEN THEIR LIVES FOR AND ARE WILLING TO DO IT ON A DAILY BASIS. Now what do you think is going to happen when you try to take that from them? You want to try and blame any thing and anyone for your own personal gain. If that’s the case, then why not get rid of all the Jewish people, Pakistanis, Hindu’s and any foreign people and deport them all after the attack on 9-11. Why not get rid of all air planes, since that was their weapons of choice. And if you do decide that, that is your solution. Well then, YOU MIGHT AS WELL DEPORT YOUR SELF AND ALL OF YOUR FAMILY ALSO. SINCE THIS COUNTRY ACTUALY BELONGS TO THE INDIANS AND THE MEXICANS. THEY ARE THE TRUE NATIVES TO THIS LAND. Your SELFISH IGNORANCE HAS NO LIMITS. Trust the fact that this is something that you DON’T WANT, don’t wake up the sleeping giant that believes in its roots stronger than what you will ever know. DO THE RIGHT THING AND TRY TO FIX WHAT YOU HAVE ALREADY SCREWED UP.

14. Legally, Puerto Rico has the worst colonial relationship than any other country in the world. This means that we already have been denied by U.S. laws many of the rights that all of the previous colonies have attained in their relations with their respective “MOTHER” countries. Instead of controlling our affairs, we should be fighting to have greater control over our own financial and political self-determination. If we continue to allow Congress to manipulate our destiny we’ll have no stake or motivation in the proper administration of our affairs.

15. This is totally a revisit of the past!!

    “This Financial Control Board is the equivalent of a landlord who charges you monthly rent, AND manages your personal checking account…from 1,500 miles away.” ….. this is what happened during the sugar cane rush … the Island was managed from afar, by the masters in the mainland!

    It’s so aggravating!!
    To Anibal Santiago …. with power of voting are you referring to? Voting in the USA (doesn’t happen), voting in the Island (doesn’t really matter). It’s all in the hands of the “American benefactor” really ……. We believed they had given that power to us … it’s really never mattered because they were, are and seems will always be the master puppeteer. 😦
